I headcanon Zuko did the exact same thing when Iroh passed away.

I auditioned for Uncle Iroh in the "Book 4: Air - Restoration" project and sang this very song as part of my audition. I understood it as an important part of Iroh's character and the final performance of Mako Iwamatsu, and so I performed from the heart and to the best of my ability. I got the part, with the project director stating "it made me tear up". Not long after, I met Greg Baldwin at a con in PA. I told him I'd be voicing Iroh for the project and, after hearing a demonstration from me, he gave it his seal of approval.

Rest in peace, Mako. You'll never be forgotten.

It’s 2023 now, 5 months until 2024 and This song and Mako’s death still make me cry so hard, every single time. It’s just so beautiful and heartbreaking. Rest in peace, Mako.
