Great tour! My only comment is, why don't you get an autogyro with an enclosed cabin? It makes a huge difference in temperature

Looks like a Cavalon AND a Calidus? Any preference between them?

Gentlemen, as I viewed this many ears ago, It popped back up on my likes (sure glad it did). I kind of remember the first time I watched this video, and the feelings that I felt just enjoying the magnificent beauty and grandeur of that incredible part of the world. We all look for words to describe such beauty, but as I mentioned earlier - I still can't find the right words? Simply Fantastic!!!

Talk about a basic panel. 😁 Did you guys know that now Auto gyro has a three-axis autopilot for the cavalon? And it works great.

What % of thrust is delivered to the main rotor via the engine transmission?
@rollingthunder2772 жыл бұрын
When I was flying, you shut down an engine (always) by leaning out the mix. Are these engines designed to be shut down but simply cutting the ignition?
@ictpilot2 жыл бұрын
ROTAX are FADEC no mixture control. Normally you practice engine out by just pulling the throttle closed.

Great video. I've flown business jets and turboprops in Iceland, which is incredible, but I like this view better. Tigre and I are finishing up our gyroplane rating here in the United States now.

Dreamer: "Someday we will have flying cars!" Gyro pilot: "I've had one for ten years, it's just not street legal." But seriously, I have a question: I've watched gyroplane videos for over eight hours, and the beginning of this video shows the first time I have seen a pilot flying without the stick trying to shake the finger nails off of his hand. Why is this aircraft different? Did they customize it?
@naturallyiceland2 жыл бұрын
Just to be sure: did you fly the gyro to Greenland too? I'm investigating a crossing from Europe to Americas. Therefore the question.

I have never flown a gyroplane, even if my cousin was the official test driver of Bensen in Europe in the 70s. Bensen built marine gyroplanes that flew towed by a speedboat.

As a part of the support to a group of world renown geologist, micro paleontologist, oceanographers, geochemist, cryomagnetist and a crew totaling 130, we all spent 9 weeks onboard the RV JOIDES Resolution in upper Baffin Bay. We were 74.5 degrees North located 13 miles off the coast studying the underwater slope structure of the sea floor which is unique there. We could see the monument to Captain Peery on the mountain in the distance. I was fortunate to have been on over 25 missions and by far this one was by far the most beautiful including that of Antarctica. The icebergs flowed past us like a freeway in the distance. The mission was timed to end when the sea ice began to form around us. As we had no icebreakers escort as we did in the Antarctic, we had to leave. Our hull was ice rated snd double but not icebreaker rated. I am retired now having served as the Senior Imaging Specialist for the program and this crew. It’s a great big beautiful world. Do what you can to see as much of it while you can.

I know this is an old vid now, but perhaps you can recall - I hear the rear seat in a Calidus gets pretty uncomfortable on long flights. Would you say so?

Loved the scenery some of your overflights were risky especially large water and the he glaciers. Power loss would have been catostrophic..
