The answer to more videos will always be a yes. As someone who is increasingly more and more interested in buying an ambi and making a conversion, I'll take all the inside information and tips I can get! It's been a day dream for several years, but I'm more and more sold on the idea of just doing it and stop dreaming. Love what you've done with your build.

California didn’t let me renew my registration on my 2009 Chevy c4500 4x4 diesel. 2019 was the last year I was legally allowed to register it. I sold it for $24,000 and the guy sold it for $120,000 in Arizona after Covid. Sucks these aren’t allowed in California

@@lostbox4636 I am looking into it and there seems to be a potential glitch in that it isn’t inverter based and might be less efficient and use more power than the larger bodied two piece units for the same BTU. But if a guy has excess power on a regular basis, it’s probably ok. Given that it’s built specifically for RVs, it might be more resistant to vibration and the stresses on the road would give it versus bolted to the side of the house. Take care

At $12 per gallon I can understand why ambulance bills are so expensive!! And I have no medical insurance... never have. So I'll keep that in mind if I ever get ill and need to go to the hospital. I'm 74 years old and so far so good. No illness of any kind, not even a cold so I think I'm good to go... no medical insurance necessary... and hopefully no ambulance. What did the ambulance originally cost ya? How long did it take for build? Have an estimate of $ you put into the build?

I think this is in the main video. 44k for the ambulance, I'd say one solid year to build, about 80k into the build.

ooooo?! I saw the original showing of this on Tiny House Tours a few years ago and so glad to hear and see this is evolving. Maybe editing a side by side video with commentary on what was happening before with various components and what is going on now. I feel that something that is *just* starting to get discussed in vanlife is how adjust or grow with your truck via different builds and adjustments. It's a thought - but love how this continues to grow!

one of the best overland builds I've seen! what are your thoughts on big/heavy/comfortable/convenient vs smaller/lighter/more austere but better off-road and mpg trade offs? your rig is a super rare platform... but seems pretty ideal to me for a long term/fulltime build... Have you looked at any other trucks? I've been thinking about building one on a JDM 4x4 cabover (hiace/dyna/fuso/atlas, etc) but also have a ram 2500 ctd that I know inside and out so might use it as a platform for a build too... anyway, more vids please:)
@lostbox46367 ай бұрын
Ah, this is the question. Look at my website and you'll see I've had a bunch of campers throughout the years from vw's to the prototype earthroamer. This is a full time camper built for one or two who get along very well. It doesn't zip around but is still comfortable to drive. I looked at Fuso which was plan B. Wouldn't do that now though because of lack of support. Funny, we have the dodge 2500 as well. Great platform but too light for full time. If look seriously at an f-550. Best of luck.

@Back, Our 1996 Ford CF8000 ExpeditionVehicle interior is three paces across by seven paces long. We acquired the shortest wheelbase, most of our mass is between the axles. . We think those long wheelbase rigs are restricted in manouveurs and parking. Add 2m/6' behind the rear axle seems like it'd stress the frame on a light-duty or medium-duty truck. . Our rig has a full semi-truck frame. Over two decades full-time live-aboard. So far, zero frame issues.

what wires did you cross to kill the mb? and yeah, 46F would never be considered "cold" in my neck of the woods (9000' Bailey, CO)! how's Baja these days? used to surf down there late 80's-early 90's... would love to get back there again!
@lostbox46367 ай бұрын
No idea which wires, wasn't worth the time. Baja is great but certainly "discovered". I doubt I'll go back since I no longer do wind sports. I'm sure most of the surf spots are still worth it.

I am in the planning stage for my overland expedition vehicle. I thought I was using a lot of insulation at 4", but 8" on your friends bus is amazing. My plan is to do numerous Arctic trips in my rig and also spend time in the desert southwest so the extra insulation would help keep the internal environment comfortable. My external habitat width will be 8.5 ft to accommodate the 4" of insulation without losing too much interior space, 8" is awesome for efficiency, but seems like it would take up too much space that is so precious in a bus build and there is no way to make the bus wider to accommodate the extra insulation. 8" of insulation is more than the average home built with 2x6 walls thus 5.5" of insulation unless extra foam board is used on the exterior of the home. I agree 8-10k btu for a small space is perfect, once the space is cool the fan can be turned to the lowest setting to maintain the temp and have the unit super quiet.

Thanks for the content.. I had not thought of removing the compressor from a mini-split to reorient it. I installed a 8000 btu window unit in my drivers rear compartment, partially because it would fit, and a minisplit wouldn't, and partially because I already had it sitting around. I cut a hole in the back of the bottom rear of the compartment and put a washable filter over the hole, and then hole in the top of the door with a 700 cfm thermostatically controlled exhaust fan. Works good once I got a baffle system set up to get a good airflow path across the coils. I did need an additional fan inside the box to get the cold air from the back of the unit to the front. If I have to do it again I will use a mini-split, as the window unit is not very efficient, usually about 750 watts with all the ancillary fans to make it work. I've got 1560 watts of solar so its about break even in the summer with the sun up.
