I love these tutorials that build on old schools tricks - even though there is a lot to be said for new tricks as well.. Anyway, this remindend me of another, also perhaps slightly nerdy trick you can do by moving the light source between two exposures: You can create shadows in 3-D that have never existed, and will never exist i real life, by using one exposure as the 'left' image, and the other as the 'right' image in a stereo pair. I know links usually do not work here, but there may be a chance, with a bit of luck that you can find a tutorial on this by searching for 'PhotoQ | Qvistphotography | Photographic Techniques' and the scoll down a bit on the resulting page :-)

Hi Lee, this is so exciting to see your creative approach to using Midjourney with your personal photographs. It is inspiring to see someone creatively looking beyond the prompt. I really respect someone like you, who is a great photographer and digital expert not afraid to venture into the AI world and create some really interesting images. Looking forward to seeing more of what you are doing.

I have a question. I used to shoot with X T 20 FUJİFİLM. NOW I also have X T 5. I tired double exposure mode. But the second image that I took was not complete. If I shoot a face image over a flower, then the second shot is not complete, I mean, some pieces of the photo are missing. It is not like X T 20 where it makes a nice double exposure over. The second or third photos are not complete and it does not give this double exposure feeling because of it.

Thank you for teaching me this technique. I think this technique will be very useful especially in solving the problem called "back scatter" caused by the flash in underwater photography. what do you think?
@LeeVaris5 ай бұрын
Yes! Any situation where there is a lot of tiny white particles that are visible against a dark background can be remedied with this technique!

Very nice tutorial. Thank you. I wonder if you tried Generate AI as an alternative way to clean the jacket?
@LeeVaris5 ай бұрын
Well... yeah, it might work if you can tolerate completely re-rendering the jacket, and it doesn't change too much. This technique is pretty easy to do though. Generative Fill might be needed for more complicated repairs.

Concerning that last photo with the group of people. Couldn't you just crop the person out and if needed try generative expand to fill back in? Good video.

Lee, when you created the second set of sharpening actions (Unsharp mask) you first created a new Stamp layer that included the High Pass group folder. Did you mean to do it that way? In other words, once you run the Unsharp filter, it makes no difference if you go back and modify the High pass results because they are already baked into the Unsharp layers. Would you please confirm that this is the way you like to do it? Or am I being confused? Thank you!
@LeeVaris9 ай бұрын
The unsharp mask layers are being applied in Darken & Lighten blend modes-you can change the underlying wide-radius HighPass Overlay layers and still get a change since the layers above are not replacing anything just adding darkening halos and lightening halos on top of whatever is going on underneath. Also, typically the wide-radius sharpening is applied at a lower opacity than the unsharp mask layers-normally I would record the HighPass as an insert menu item so I could decide on a radius setting based on the image before finishing the action with the unsharp mask. I didn't do that in the video just for instructional purposes.

You always hear that it's better to use a crop camera. What are your experiences with this?
@LeeVaris Жыл бұрын
Crop camera? You mean a crop sensor? I've never heard the argument that crop sensors are better, usually it's said that full frame sensors are better, but I think today crop sensors are fine, as far as resolution and detail. Its really all about the look of larger image circle lenses-the out-of-focus "bokeh" of larger format lenses is what gives full frame and medium format cameras that certain "look"

Interesting to see what Magnific can do (including mountains in Venice???), but to me they recall the worst excesses of overdone HDR when it was a novelty. Some very nice images totally ruined in my opinion, but each to their own and there must (presumably) be someone out there somewhere who likes this sort of look.
