Ah! Behold! A wonderful childhood memory springs forth from my iPad screen! Noggin the Nog, oh what a brilliant programme that was….made me love Viking history, which I still do (and Noggin of course!). This, Ivor the Engine, etc, masterpieces of child televisual feasting. I look aghast at today’s pitiful offerings when compared to those classics….no comparison at all, like dog shit and the finest chocolate one could eat

Hearing the strains of a melancholy theme, my heart was saddened, with thoughts of lost innocence. Recollections of things always held dear, remained for many years undisturbed but not hidden.Life's pleasures were much simpler then and I with a future of fair promise before me , could no ill in the world see, or that providence would desert me ever.Yet now as I approach my twilight, vainly I reflect on what might have been. But for that which in youth was a joy and delight, shall, in fondest memory, be cherished forever.

One time, long time ago, did I venture to the lands of the north where the black rocks stand guard against the dark sea . And there did I meet warriors from all the lands of naytoe. And those warriors would test us in drinking, gambling and fighting contests and lo, they would fail. They would fail in tests of skiing ,navex, load carry and any test. For we were the warriors of thuree cadoe badee and it was good , as we sat round the huge log fires and invoked our tradition of getting shyters. When Odin calls me to my rest in the halls of Valhalla , I will remember that time . And lo, do I wish it was tomorrow, instead of yesterday. And when Ragnorock comes, ready I will stand, sword in hand. 7.62 self loading rifle, actually.

How quaint. How TV was then. I remember this and Ivor the engine, bliss, the narrator Oliver Postgate was the voice for many a child growing up who were transfixed to the TV and absorbing beautiful animations like this. Brian Cant was also a lovely narrator/presenter and Alan Rothwell too as well as many others.

Oh how I loved this programme. It’s so good to see it again and I just wish I could buy the series. Who could ever forget Queen Caroline calling ‘Pongo pongo Pongo to her pet dragon. Like so many here have commented, very few of us remember this little gem of a series, but oh how heartwarming it is to see it again. Thank you so much.

There was a man on room 101 once and he was older than my parents and he wanted this in room 101 because when he was a child, he was terrified of the puppets on this and I agree with him and normally I like puppets but these would give me nightmares.

I couldn't remember the name of it until I was in my 40s. I recall it being really scary. One evening I was on the telephone with the sound down on the TV and saw a clip of it come up. I immediately tried to catch what the presenter was saying and missed it. I had to wait for a repeat of the programme a week later to remember the title! Thanks for commenting.
