Is there some ruling in MTG where if a card requires you to discard your hand, you necessarily must have at least one card in it to even have a hand? Because if you can "discard" an empty hand Lion's Eye Diamond just seems like a Black Lotus with extra words. How could that ever have been anything but amazing?

You cannot discard a hand with 0 cards in most cases

That's a common misconception. If a card says you *must* do x or discard your hand, you have to do x, because *must* forces a change in the game state. If a card says *if* you discard your hand, then x, the *if* does not trigger because you cannot discard 0 cards. (unless forced to or otherwise stated) If a card simply says "discard your hand, then x" then you can discard your 0 card hand to trigger x, because x must trigger, but it cannot before the hand is discarded. Another exception is, instead of saying "must" a card says "do x unless you discard your hand", you may discard a 0 card hand. It's a pretty complex topic in magic and these aren't all the examples, but they're the most common ones.

On the fruit of the loom topic I will admit that growing up in LA we were poor and used to go buy the cheap clothe and sometimes they were bootleg brands. So I grew up with the cornucopia in the brand but for all I know it was the fake version that I grew up with. I still prefer the Mandela version as it's fun to see the internet go crazy over conspiracy theories.
