That's a good thing. It does raise the price by $10.00, from $25.00 to $35.00, it's worth it. It's still much cheaper than Lionel, Atlas and MTH.
@DelHudson125 күн бұрын
I love that Atlas is making the Ford F-100 pickup trucks in O-scale. That was the highlight for me in their catalog.
@N_scale26 күн бұрын
If MTH wasn’t a zombie company with atlas and there was a competitor to making steam and passenger etc that Lionel makes then all of sudden price would come down

Hey Gary, I have this same station. I'm modeling my layout from my hometown. We had a Sinclair station in my small hometown in the 50's-60's. As a kid, I guess a big dinosaur like that left a lasting visual impression on my brain. It's pretty clever that Sinclair would use a dinosaur to form a link to the oil pulled out of the ground to the gas used to power our cars. Isn't it ironic that our beasts run on Dino juice. Oh, if only the dinosaurs saw that one coming, they would have tried harder, not to go extinct😅. I completely disassembled and customized mine. I reduced the plastic base height with a belt sander to the thickness of Masonite and added driveway extensions along the front and sides with approaches out of Masonite and custom painted the concrete to actually look like worn concrete with Americana DecoArt acrylic craft paint after it was primed. I removed the backing and used 1/2" foam core board and added side wall extensions and a flat roof. I disassembled anything that could be removed from the base with a sharp razor knife and masked the signs. I used a single light, flat primer coat for plastics. Krylon Fusions or Camouflage paint works well as long as it's flat and made for plastics. Acrylic craft paint doesn't stick well to most all plastic surfaces and needs some tooth for it to stick. Any FLAT spray paint for plastics works as a base or dullcote will work also. The flat spray paint can be used as the finished surface but the acrylics come in a lot off different colors, are designed for blending for a more natural and realistic finish, and they dry dead flat without sheen. I left the original white cinder block front as is and sprayed it, and the completely disassembled truck with a light coat of dullcote. I used Americana DecoArt Holly green and warm white to repaint the building, and found these to be a good match to the original colors. I used Americana DecoArt Metallics silver acrylic paint to paint the sigm pole and burnt umber and cinnamon stick to lightly weather it with rust. You could lightly sand the scratched roof prior to painting it. I use a dry sponge paint method to paint shingles, masonry, brick, concrete, asphalt, and pretty much any rough textured surface that has a variegated surface. It's easy to naturally build up layers in varying shades this way. The technique is to use a dry sponge method where most of the paint is blotted off before applying. You'll soon develop your own technique with practice. It's not difficult to paint sloppy like a kid. The flat acrylic paint will have a similar hiding effect to flat wall paint in that it will hide the unnatural blemishes caused in the plastic molding process. Those dimples along each side of the roof and that shiney unnatural plastic surface that screams plastic building will disappear to a more natural realistic finish. Weathering with acrylics by making a stain using lots of water with very little paint also adds to the overall effects. I prefer to add light weathering as opposed to heavy handed to achieve a more natural cohesiveness between structures. Different degrees of weathering are preferred to give the appearance that the entire town wasn't built in a single day.

I do the same thing you do with the older couplers from Menards. O Rings work great and I don’t do yard operations so uncoupling during running isn’t something I worry about.
@RABSTRAINSАй бұрын
I actually like Menards items for what they are. The new trucks are a major improvement. I find myself purchasing Lionel Brand items less due to the very high prices. I just can’t afford the prices, so Menards is where I go.

If you want to make it look like real wood, I suggest using the water-based flat acrylic craft paints. Testers are enamel paints for painting model cars for a gloss finish. The acrylics can be diluted with water to make stains and weathered effects. I always use more than one color at a time and blend to produce weathered effects for more realistic finishes. Acrylics are ideal for natural blending and almost dry instantly. Absolutely, everything on my layout is painted with acrylics. From structures to scenery. Anything that looks like wood, masonry, metal, earth, and turf. There are many colors to choose from to make any surfac look like wood, masonry, metal, earth, rock, or vegetation. I prefer the Americana DecoArt, Folkart, and chalk paint from Hobby Lobby or Michael's. For high-quality acrylic pigments, there's also Tamiya or Vallejo. I use a lot of water and mix burnt umber mixed with a dab of gray and black to make stained wood to look like creosote or wethered wood of wood ties, utility poles, and trestles I use burnt umber to make aged looking rust on metal looking surfaces and dab cinnamon stick over it to look like newer rust. The flat finish and blending contrasting colors together is what creates a realistic effect. The acrylics' natural blending tendency makes it easy to achieve desired results. Something that would be extremely difficult to do with the Testors enamel paints and would need to be coated with dullcote to achieve that same natural looking flat finish. Wood, you buy off of the rack at the lumber store isn't one solid color and doesn't come with a gloss finish. Before painting plastics with acrylics, they need to be primed with any flat spray paint made for plastics. I've had excellent results with The Krylon Fusion or Camouflage spray paints or Rustoleum primers using a light coat. They stick extremely well and dry extremely fast. The acrylics need some tooth to stick to the plastic surfaces and produce professional looking realistic results. For the acrylic paints I find I use burnt umber, black, grays, kaki, cinnamon stick, greens, brick red, and red rust to be used for most anything and everything that needs painting on a layout and go through those colors the most so stock up.
@ganrailroad2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the information. I will definitely try what you said, the Testors was shiny, and i don't think they are in business anymore, I don't see it being sold in stores. I'm going to print this response out for future reference. Thanks for Watching.
@DRCRailroard2 ай бұрын
Testor small bottles of paint and their small spray paint cans are still available at Hobby Lobby and hobby stores. It doesn't take much time to develop a technique with desired results. It can become somewhat addictive and before you realize it everything in the room that's nailed down, is painted and weathered. I even added wethered ties and ballast to my tubular track and painted and weathered the track. A couple of good KZbin sources to check out are Boomer Diorama and Jason Jensen Trains. They are both professional artist that have how-to vidoes for building a layout. They both model in HO, but I don't hold that against them because they are both equally awesome at what they teach, and it works in all scales.

Great Advice for these expensive switches when it comes to Gargraves anything Lol! But yes Sir I have both of these said tracks on my layout and though the Gargrave equipment is very expensive, in my personal opinion, its probably the most lifelike track and switches I've ever seen so far yet! Especially when they're made of real wooden railroad ties! But definitely worth the time and effort to make conversion pieces for adapting these different styles of tracks together! Thanks for the video Gary, it's was very helpful! 😊
