There were a few things in the catalog with stupidly high prices… but most of the stuff was as “reasonable” as Lionel has ever been.

Just a goofy math note: O scale is actually (roughly) 8 times the size of HO… double the length, double the width, and double the height, so 2x2x2=8. So it should take roughly 8 HO models to fill the same space as 1 O scale train. I say “roughly” because HO is a bit over half in each dimension of O… so it won’t be exactly 8. It’s not a criticism…. It’s one of those things that just depends on how you look at it. Although a few of the rants about this catalog are justified, it was good to see a more level-headed approach to it. I have been saying that I think the expected tariffs are playing a part in the price hikes… most of which, are in reason.

That is a beautiful train of Christmas box cars, Gary! From the locomotive to the caboose, just fantastic! Thank you for again participating in the challenge this year, I was hoping you would. It is always great to see folks having fun with their trains and I could certainly tell you were having fun making this video of your Christmas train plying the rails of the GAN Railroad. Gary, you can certainly now proclaim, "Bill B., I did it!" I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Bill B.

Just curious, as I have recently acquired a seven-piece set of RailKing 60-foot passenger cars from an MTH warehouse auction that I believe are engineering samples (including both a round-end _and_ flat-end observation car, the latter of which I don't recall seeing in the RK lineup). Oh, and they're chrome plated to boot. Owing to that mirror finish I'm kinda leery of letting them sit around without boxes so I plan to make some that are close as possible to the size of the factory boxes (I've got a hot-wire styrofoam cutter and a supply of cardboard). Only thing is since these are the first RK 60' coaches in my collection, I don't have any measurements of them for reference. Any chance you could measure the single and two-car boxes length, height and depth?
@ganrailroadАй бұрын
the single boxes are 6x20 inches and the double boxes are 12x20.. there is a company called east coast train parts that sell boxes for trains. They are at york in the orange hall and allentown train shows. their boxes are lionel or boxes that look like lionel with no writing on them. here is a link to their website. www.eastcoasttrainparts.com/

@@ganrailroad Thanks for the dimension info. I believe I have ECTP's boxes for some other cars in my collection, they're postwar style with a prominent "Reproduction" notation inside one of the flaps. I'm pretty sure I've also seen them at York. While I imagine ECTP has boxes suitable for postwar aluminum coaches, I still think I'll go the extra step and provide these cars with styrofoam trays and cushioned inserts mimicking the size of MTH's packaging, being I have both materials on-hand and one of the Hot Wire Foam Factory's scroll-table cutters. I've had success building templates for a variety of MPC-style boxes for a number of my traditional-size freight cars, so building these should be only a modest challenge :)

Yep. Both the engine and superbass are chipped at the couplers and screws have surface rust from the package. Also the super bass only comes with 1 electrocoupler instead of 2 like the engine.

Wish Menards would have went with their own Atlas or Fastrack clone! I really want to stay away from tubular track. Hard to see it as anything but ugly after working with Atlas or even Fastrack.
@doct0rnicАй бұрын
Menards doesn't engineer their stuff, I imagine they bought the designs from Lionel to produce the tubular track, Williams doesn't really make any trains anymore either, I wouldn't be surprised if Menards is using Williams designs for rolling stock
