This was super helpful, Nicole. My daughter owns a second home in Silverdale directly on Dyes inlet and I am considering moving there. I am a long time avid boater, primarily in lakes, and you helped answer some of my concerns regarding the perils involved. Can you tell me the minimum size boat you would feel safe in outside of Dyes Inlet?

Sorry for the delayed response! Thank you for watching and your kind words. That is a tough question. Depends on what you are doing. If you want to go to Poulsbo, I would say at least 21 ft. and Seattle 27 ft. minimum boat size (in my opinion). We have gone in a 27ft boat and we still had to be careful going to Seattle some days. The waves in Elliott Bay can get pretty crazy!

Gig Harbor housing is cheap compared to living east of Seattle where the average house goes for between $1-2 million - and with smaller lots.

"Are you considering moving to the Puget Sound?"...... don't!! I was born in Overlake Hospital, raised in Seattle around greenlake. I left Seattle in 2004 and the westside in 2010. Left the state in 2022. I miss my friends and family, but not enough to move back.

If your disabled no funding fee some states likeTexas the property taxes are reduced depending on what percentage of disability a veteran is. If 100 percent disabled 0 property taxes.So basically all pros and no cons if a vet qualifies.
