How do you get started on a course like this, coming from someone that has the land to do it just not the experience
@trmentry12 күн бұрын
Do you mean how to setup the stage? There are many ways.... get some paper and start doodling is one way. The stages we shot yesterday were lifted from match books of other matches in the country. I can't remember what the match was called. But I'm in Phx. So the stages were from say a match in Kansas. Just have to google around for the match books with the stages in them. Sometimes they will lift stages from EU IPSC Matches. There is a stage design program in Steam called Practism Designer. It has all the models of the various targets and barrels, etc. You just drag and drop into a pistol bag and arrange them into your stage. Jealous you have the land to shoot on. I hope to get back to the midwest in a few years and get a place with some land so I can plink in my "backyard". :)

What camera setup and mount are you running?
@trmentry24 күн бұрын
It's a very old GoPro Hero4 Session on a tripod mount drilled through the brim of my hat. It still works so just never bothered to upgrade. But have been debating on moving to an Insta camera.

I love those colors on your Platy!Does yours have the new bull barrel and prickle grip? If so how do they feel shooting? Did you go with the regular prickle grip or the extra aggressive? Also, what trigger weight did you go with and what optic cut and optic are you using? Please let me know and Thanks! I would love to see you do a review of yours!!
@trmentryАй бұрын
Yes... bull barrel. Prickle grip. Not the extra aggressive. The prickle is grippy but not as grippy as I was expecting. I may do aggressive if I get another one. trigger is the competition trigger. it avg around 2.7# or so. I got RMR optic cut. My only grip with the gun is the tiny little safeties ... i wish they had a wider version. and shielded. the failure to feeds I was getting was due to me riding the slide with my thumb. Otherwise I'm very happy with gun and looking forward to the next match with it.

Any idea why it kept jamming? Ammo issue? Looked like a failure to feed all three times but it was hard to tell.

I kept riding the slide with my thumb on the safety. I'm use to my open 2011 which has shielded safeties. Wish there was an option for wider and shielded safeties in the build tool.

@@trmentry good to know. I’m supposed to be getting mine this week, I’ll have to train myself not to ride the safety….although it seems like that’s the proper grip on any 2011.

I’m taking the PSSC at rio in a couple weeks. Not new to shooting but new to practical. What would be a good club for my first match?
@trmentry4 ай бұрын
The day after the PSSC i think is the Intro 2 Steel. Similar to Tue Night Steel. Tue Night Steel is where I shot for a few months getting used to things.. then dropped into some USPSA things. But you can start with any of the USPSA ones. Any of them are fine.

How does one get into shooting like this?
@trmentry5 ай бұрын
Check with your local gun club to see when they run their USPSA or similar practical matches. My club requires a beginning shooter to have passed the safety class OR already be classified in USSPA/Steel Challenge, etc before coming to their first match. So def check with your club as to what their rules are for that. I do recommend taking a safety class if offered. It just teaches you basics of the rules for gun handling on the move etc. Keeping the gun pointed safely downrange, etc. No finger on trigger when on the move, etc. Then just sign up to a match and have fun.

yah... they were out there.. but the camera makes it look worse than they were. That stage was near the end of day 2 and I was tired... and I didn't want to run to the low window to get on my knees to engage them... so took a chance at the long shots.

It's an EGW Sidewinder. I had a dimple drilled into the sight notch so that the set screw will bite into a bit of something to keep it in there. Also had the racker itself trimmed down to fit ... it's a bit long for the slide. CZCustom in Mesa did the work for me. I live local so easy to drop off for work.

would hosmasters be a good step into USPSA? ive been doing TNS for the last couple months and ready to dive in. Ive also been looking at doing dirtbaggers
@trmentry Жыл бұрын
I think either would be fine. Keep in mind hosemasters sometimes has stages >32rounds (thus the name) so on those times, no classifier. can't remember if dirtbaggers has classifiers or not. haven't shot it in a long time. RMAP is good too. RSPP I would wait till you are classed. hope to see you out there.
