I put syl-glide on 1 pin, purple goo on the other. When they came back for another set of brakes in 50,000 miles, I stopped using purple on the pins. It was always dried out compared to the syl-glide.

NEW rotors need to be cut to match the hub. This is what the factory does. And the Toyota dealership.

Its 2024 and this is by far the best brake and rotor service i have ever seen. From the high quality rotors to the sanded and painted calipers, you stand out from alot of shops. I am from upstate NY and it would definitely be worth the 7 hour drive to have you work on my vehicle.

Thank you. The reason we did this video was to inform our customers how we perform a brake job. Our web designer suggested we upload it to KZbin and link it to our website. We had no idea it would get 500k views and create over 2k followers for our channel. We are honored, and we appreciate you watching and commenting.

Upon getting a brake job quote from Kia I had asked if the new replacement rotors were OEM, they said no. They typically just purchase rotors from AutoZone. Of course, I don't know how much better Kia's OEM rotors are compared to AutoZone's, probably not much, it was just surprising to me. Not to mention their job would have been almost $300 more than going to a local brake shop who's more concerned with using quality parts and charging a more reasonable price.

"Nobody turns brake rotors anymore..." Thats completely not true, at least in Texas as alot of people still do it. But we dont get the rust down here like yall do.

I am a woman and unfortunately I have been cheated by more than one mechanic in my life. I really liked your video, it was clear and specific. I am very grateful that you showed exactly what the equinox 2012 chassis looks like and how to locate a small leak using a smoke machine and an estimated repair cost . I changed the gas cap and now, after watching your video, I know what I should hear from the mechanic I'll go to. Thanks to you, I will be well prepared. Thank you very, very much.

Ich stimme zu. Der letzte Mechaniker hätte die Hardware austauschen oder neue Bremssättel einbauen müssen. All this stems from people having no idea how to work on their vehicle. You dont have to be a master mechanic but for as much as we humans rely on cars the majority of us have no idea how they work.

True. Not everyone is handy. For those people, find a great mechanic and be faithful to them. We always treat our customers well, our A customers get priority treatment however. Being faithful to my shop makes me want to go above and beyond for my customer.

I worked at a parts store for 10 years and what i learned about shops is i dont want to take my car to most of them. 1k for a brake job from a shot is pretty ragular for price but you expect them to change pads and rotors when have a shop do it or at least turn them which most shops don't have a machine for anymore because time to do it is not worth it when can order new rotors and drums. Some people see the price shops charge and think its stupid high but a lot of shops are trying to change pads rotors calipers because it makes it easier to warranty and guarantees less issues because calipers can hang up cutting pad life or even worse having a brake stick on then add labor charge of 80 to 140 per hr. This is why dealerships charge around 2500 for brake jobs plus. Shops that do brake jobs right you are over priced but you get peace of mind. Problem really is the shops that try to sale you on that they are little cheaper so should have them do it because they look at how much the shops that change everything charge they look at what the bare minimum they can change costs them then they charge you same amount in labor if not more for a few shops seen and all that savings is in parts they didn't change. If a shop gives you a price before you bring the car in this is what you can expect either everything is new or they cut corners so bad its going to cost you shortly down the road. There are a few good shops out that will change what needs changed and give you a good deal but and warranty there work even if they didn't change a calipers and the caliper went out after because when they didn't job without change because they believe it befine so it was their call they won't complain they with get it fixed for the price of new calipers because when it left they put their judgement on it.

$1000 for break change. I do all my own work but that price seems way to high for just breaks.
@t-bfr45-702 ай бұрын
Shops charge a pretty high amount because a lot of shops will do calipers rotors and pad because do want any chance of anything going wrong and it's easier to warranty it if everything is new. Some shops look at other shops prices and then do crap job and don't change anything and charge just a little less then the shops that go beyond what's needed. At least they put new wheel cylinders on the back and spring kit should change cylinders any time do drums because they tend to leak if not but this was definitely one of those shops you never want to go to. But see this stuff way to often it's way better to learn how do it yourself and do it right then to take it to the lower bid shop.

A honest mechanic is like a good cop very rare but do exist. Last time i got charged $1300 for a front strut job at Midas and they charged me $400 for each strut assembly and i asked why was the job so expensive. They said is was the parts used. So I checked the part number used, and each part cost $180 from Napa but they told me it was because they used a quality strut costing $400 a piece. They lied and screwed me. Unless you follow each customer home to make sure they made it home safe dont say, You treat people like family or your not willing to drive 180 miles just to make sure the job you did is still doing good.

Usually ceramic brakes pads are used on racecars because you have to warm it up really much to have a good and safe brake. In daily cars are not the best option because it's not reach the required temperature.

Great video. Thank you for the explanations of the different qualities and what to look for. I was looking at NAPA's brakes for my upcoming rear replacement, so when I price them out, I will look at the build quality before purchasing. I will do you one higher though, I have a 99 Silverado with 360,000 miles. The front brake rotors are original and the pads have only been changed once. Grant it, I realize that that's because Chevy's front to back brake ratio drastically favors the back brakes, but its still super impressive. Getting ready to do only the 4th set of back brakes on my truck. Up until this change, we've only used ACDelco OEM brake parts (which are now extremely rare to find). But even still, my back brakes are lasting an average of 120,000 miles. Extremely impressive quality. Thanks again!

Inspection only tells you the condition of your car on that day! It cannot tell you if a brake pad will fail next week! That goes for most items inspected. You definitely need to maintain your car but big brother is much too involved in our lives. Congratulations for ending the safety Inspection.
