I favor PEKINGESE. They do not bark unnecessarily. They do not jump and run around . They do not lick face ( gross!) They are very loyal. They could outlive you for sure. That is why after my last PEKE passed away at 26yo, I decide to make him my last because I do not want to leave my next one's life and welfare to chance. I have happy memories of my dogs, at 76, it's plenty to carry me on.

Most of these dogs are high maintenance! Too much so for seniors. But you can always shave their hair short. I love Westies myself.

From Miriam Webster Dictionary shih tzu noun ˈshēd-ˈzü ˈshēt-ˈsu (lorrie adds) it is acceptable to capitalize the S & T You may see other pronunciations, but back in the 80s, when I purchased one, the breeder told me how to say the breed name correctly. Almost all people butcher it and it certainly is NOT a sh*t zoo.

As always Google the pros and cons of these small breeds or any breed. MAKE SURE you have insurance because when things go wrong, they really go wrong. talking from experience.

I've always owned the large and giant breeds and now I'm looking for a small breed for a few reasons. I also don't want to have to deal with groomers any more, so short fur I can wash at home myself is a must. A lot of these breeds require professional grooming.

Most of these choices are very small. Small dogs tend to be barky and are often prone to be snappy. These aren't good features for seniors. These choices are mostly long haired and require more brushing or grooming.

Bichon Frise is pronounced Beejon FREEZE. some of the dogs in this selection are probably not ideal for seniors. Also, these days I doubt that many pensioners (…in Britain anyway) have enough spare income to regularly spend on regular visits to dog-groomers.

Dogs are "man's best friend", short for "mankind's best friend", not "... a man's or woman's best friend". Enuff with the virtue signaling, just speak English correctly instead.

A Poodle is my choice. Not the standard but not the mini - the middle sized poodle are smart, hypo allergenic, playful and obedient. Just what an elderly person needs, as I am 77 and very mobile.

I watched this video aimed at elderly people and yet everyone in this video was young, wearing short dresses. If these dogs are for seniors, why didn't you have seniors walk and groom these dogs? STUPID MISTAKE ON YOUR PART.

I live in Peachtree City. I told my kids that one day they are going to realize that they have unique childhoods. I told them that you’re going to be in college talking about how you drove your golf cart to school and no one is going to know how to respond to that.

for me the best breeds have been dachshunds, both smooth coat and wire coat, they come in standard and miniature size, also mixed breeds can be ideal, my present dog is a rescue dog who is a jack russell terrier x chihuahua, i wanted another dachshnd when my old girl died but none of the breeders i knew didnt ae ny for sale, so i went to pets for adoption and found Monty, He is a very obedient and loving companion who loves every one and thinks they should love him too,

I’ll be a young 75 years in July 2024 and would love a calm loving small hair dog (due to my lack of strength and allergies) to be my last companion. Preferably about 3 years old and potty trained!

For over 50 years every dog I have had was a rescue. They all lived very long lives. I currently have a Chiweenie, age 10 --I had both her parents -both rescues. I also have 4 Malinois-Labrador mix dogs, each 80+ lbs & rescued as puppies. Every dog I ever had lived long full happy lives. Sooo, don’t assume if you’re old you need a toy dog. I’m 78 & play ball walk, etc with big dogs who each respond to one-word commands with hand signals. I’m love all of them & feel very safe.

He has done everything you reported, for example when we go for a walk we are stopped quite often as people want to meet him.

I've had 2 Yorkies, and never could completely potty train them. We are in our 70's and our Maltese/Shitzu puppy is completely trained at 9 months--she is so smart and already can follow simple directions. The only thing that is sometimes challenging, is her high energy~she loves to play and run around the house. We adore her~

I had a mini poodle that I got as a puppy. He passed away at 17 and I truly miss him. He was hilarious to watch and had a sweet temperament. I’m 80 years of age and I won’t get another dog now, I wouldn’t want him to be left alone if I were to go before him now.

I understand completely, but there are senior dogs that get dropped off and are heartbroken waiting for someone to take the loneliness away. Please consider getting one of these lost, brokenhearted dogs. They might cost a little more to care for with vitamins and such, but they will most likely not outlive you and will be so loyal and loving.
