Seems like a great idea. Keeping the heat in the fireplace might change the performance of the simmer ring. I've found that the simmer ring works best if one starts off with a cold stove, otherwise the fuel gets too hot to handle for maintaing the simmering range of temperatures. So if you need to boil first cool it down with some water or snow before refueling to cook your omlette ... If one pops the snuffer off the swivel on the simmer ring it can still be dropped into place with a small set of tongs.

To my personal opinion, the Ergon grips provide a bit more dampening. They found good compromise in between stability and squishiness. On the longer run the Odis feel a bit "harsher".

I bought a twig stove a few years back that has the exact same walls as your wind screen, but it has a small grate and Trangia stove cut out piece that slots into the walls. By using this set up the stove is off the ground a bit. The stove does not appear to get too hot with this set up. I keep everything in a small Trangia kettle and it all fits in nicely. It boils water at 11 minutes. I keep it in my SUV for a quick coffee or to hydrate a Mountain House meal. I guess being off the ground a bit helps. Cheers!😊

This exact bike is one of the reasons why I’ll never buy another Cube again. What a disappointing quality of components on this bike. Fenders are crap, wheels/rims are poor quality and poorly tensioned/build. Nuts/screws that start rusting easily. Very, very disappointed with its quality. Initially it looks nice, but when you look further it becomes obvious Cube has been cutting on its quality..
@geminikamper867024 күн бұрын
@@BenSietze which bike would you recommend? Shimano XT brakes a Shimano Alfine 11 speed hub and a Gates carbon belt drive I personally wouldn't consider this a low quality components bike
@BenSietze23 күн бұрын
@ it’s the other components where they have saved money. The hubs are fine, Alfine is ok, the rest of the wheels are not (spokes/rims/quality of the wheel built). Fenders are crap. It’s the stuff that is not so obvious at first. I bought this same bike for my son and am pretty shocked at how poor quality an almost 2000 euro bike has become. I bought myself a 1800 second hand trekking bike from a brand that specialises in that type of bike, got the Rohloff hub (with chain, too old for a belt) but this bike is so much better quality on all fronts, can’t compare the two. The quality of wheels in the Cube is what got me the most. They were horrendous. And Cube claims that spokes are consumable items… that’s utter BS and very poor customer service. Never ever will I buy or recommend a cube to anyone.. I’m sorry, hope you have a better experience..

If you cut Vs in the top of each panel, the escaping heat is directly under the pot?
@EpicureanHikers29 күн бұрын
I can't see anything wrong with your setup. A few field tests will tell if it's any use for you. However why not go one step further, add another panel (or two) so that your pot drops inside the windshield giving the flame some protection. The pot can be supported by a pair of cheap shepherd's hook pegs or similar 3 or 4 mm aluminium rod pushed through holes in the side of the windshield. Same for the burner. Just a thought as I made something similar for the trangua mess tin and will put up a video later in the year. My experience is that the diameter of a carbon felt burner determins how much heat is put out. It should be obvious but not to me for some time. I found that a burner of about 30mm dia burns 1ml a minute. Ideal for determining length of time to simmer. Hope this was of interest and I look forward to seeing where you take this.
@truthfilter29 күн бұрын
what you are attempting is completely logical, why would we want a separate windscreen and pot stand when 1 item properly designed will easily do both jobs, I've never been a fan of the simmer ring anyway I personally think it's pointless, I would prefer to put the simmer ring under the stove to keep it off the cold ground, I would do away with that pin to lock the windscreen because it can easily be lost, it would be better if the two edges of the windscreen locked into eachother just from the way they are cut, I would definitely buy this kind of windscreen no fuss no building it from pieces, it's compact and dual functional which is perfect

My Naturehike R8.8 arrived this week with a manufacturing fault which was obvious to see on inflation. One of the button welds did not stick and a lump was there. Luckily on the bottom. Inflated well and looks good. I put it on the house floor overnight with a 6kg weighted box on top. Next day it had totally deflated. Next night slept on it and again flat in the morning. These are not cheap. I would just take it back to the shop here and get another or a refund. Buying from the other side of the world may be more problematic. These production line products have no serious quality control and truthfully, you cannot inflate each one up and leave it overnight. It’s the luck of the draw.
