I enjoyed the last game. It reminded me of a game I used to have on the PC back in the early 2000s where you went around a western town , it could have been called Outlaw, but the 3rd game was similar in look. Jerky but graphics were good. I think, as a software developer myself, that these people have started creating the game without planning the plot, the gameplay journey and the ultimate goal - they started with the graphics and hoped the game would emerge from that ; almost like a song writer starting with 2 chords and hoping that he other 12 chords and the lyrics will magicly manifest if they play 2 chords over and over again hoping for inspiration. The spider game was creepy - I have no problem with spiders but 12 foot spiders I draw a line !

I hate how absolutely minmaxxed everything is in capitalism. Every aspect of your life if designed to steal your attention and money, and advertising is more about influencing your psychology in subtle ways than showing the product itself.
@VeltrossthoАй бұрын
I don't click videos on mobile. I let the video autoplay from preview. If I do click the video to leave a comment or something, I wait about 5 minutes. It doesn't play the ad, except midroll and endroll ads if I do this. For videos that don't allow sound from preview, I skip them unless it's content I know I'll like or already watch. Also, the waiting part still works on silent previews so long as you wait a bit, most of the front load of a video is sponsors and paytreon plugs anyway.

It's not overdramatic in the slightest to state that they're stealing our attention. That's exactly what the entire internet and social media corporations are all about nowadays. They're quite literally trying to make us all addicted and squeeze as much money out of us as humanly possible with zero regard for the consequences. That SOUNDS dramatic, but to be honest it's just the norm in our little late-stage capitalist hellhole we live in. I really wish things like this could be dismissed as something outrageous but, tragically, they're entirely to be expected. You can safely assume that any change YT makes is there to mislead you into spending more time and/or money.

I'm gonna put on another layer on this tinfoil hat of yours and say KZbin is easing us into what Mr. Beast does with ads. The distance is more difficult to estimate so the time you have to watch ads can be made longer without us noticing.

This video was a nice front page recommendation. Regarding what's going on with the skip button: I think it's partially the attention thing you've described, but maybe also them trying to increase the "time to skip" to slightly above 5 seconds in the future, exactly because, with this visualisation, it's not quite as easy anymore to know that 5 seconds have passed.

@@grmpf thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Excellent insight into the future usage of the "time to skip". They can now be very sneaky.

Well, I've put ads on YT myself, and Google doesn't let you pay for ads that haven't been watched past the midway point. It does have a purpose. It's to target the right ads to the right people.
@wildwildsouthwestchildАй бұрын
@@NotAProducer888 oh, do you mean that you advertise on YT pre/mid/post roll ads? If so, has this recent update changed the cost to advertise?
@NotAProducer888Ай бұрын
@@wildwildsouthwestchild Well, I think Google decides on that, or it's the creators, idk. When you put video ads on Google ads, they explicitly state that you only pay for each ad that gets viewed past the halfway point. It does affect the costs quite significantly. At first, you don't pay much, because you yourself might have not picked the right demographic. When you review the stats and start narrowing down, you can see the costs increase, but you also get much better results. Google also gives you suggestions as well, as they see which demographic has the best view retention. It's a quite sophisticated system, they keep improving it. I guess Google also uses some kind of AI to make this process even more efficient. It's crazy how well it works.

Advertising, since Edward Bernays, has been based on manipulation more and more and less and less on informing people about the existence and properties of some product and service. They don't care what you know about it: they just want you to unconsciously associate it with the 'good life' so you'll spend your money on it without conscious oversight.
@wildwildsouthwestchildАй бұрын
That's really interesting, I'll look into him, thanks
@SloMoMondayАй бұрын
@@wildwildsouthwestchild Bernays is the rot that infested every form of PR. Effectively turned marketing into propaganda by making consumerism an emotional crutch. Make people angry and sell them piece of mind, make them lonely and sell social status. But either way, always take more then you give, so they're always coming back for more. Its marketing strategy that translates to a lot of activations in retail consumer markets even if the product is being degraded. So naturally it is the only marketing strategy adopted across the board.
@VeltrossthoАй бұрын
The worst part is that it doesn't even work if you know about it. Once you understand the marketing manipulation tactics used, you can actively choose to ignore if not outright reject them for the tactic. It's a tactic to be used on the uninformed, which makes it even more dastardly imo. Just heard a McDonalds ad spouting about how when you say "you want breakfast," your boyfriend should understand "that means McDonalds." When looking at the whole ad from beginning to end, it's just pandering an imaginary scenario. It's so dumb, but they pay millions for that earworm to be spat at you at least once a day for a month.
