By the way your work is phenomenal but even the people you are shooting are like the black elite. There are so many photographers but you have an impeccable eye. In this day and age of eye phone photographers you have a huge struggle ahead of you.

The truth is it’s about who you know and racism. I just think black photographers will always be looked down upon because they don’t have a certain people in front of them. If you are not shooting celebrities or models, or white people in general. I have done hair and makeup for years and a lot of black people hire white photographers. It goes back to the whole white is right belief. And nowadays, with these digital cameras , a white photographer can pick up a camera and put it on auto and people will think their photography is amazing because of who they are shooting. I even had a photographer tell me I will never go far if I didn’t have white women in my portfolio.Let’s be honest being black is like a scarlet letter. And sometimes it’s our own people feel the same about us. You are realistic. You are not making this up.

Thanks for the video man. This is a very good take on what it takes to be a proper 2nd. My question though is how do you submit your photos to the main photographer? Do you give them your card? A dropbox/google drive/cloud storage link? Much love for the content man.

I am doing weddings with two cameras and mainly 35 1.4 + 85 1.4 for 10 years. of course, i sometimes bring more stuff depending on the job and sometimes use a 20 1.4 for wider shots or to be directly inside whats happening (for example on the dancefloor) or a 135 2.0 for bokehlicious candid portraits, and there is always the 24-70 as a backup in case one lens or camera gives out...but the 35+85 combo is just perfect for me. wouldnt really "need" to bring something else for the whole day. also i normally dont carry a flash anymore since the low light capabilities of modern full frame cams have gotten so good (and the autofocus also still works without assist light).

Since you did this video the case for the A1 has got even worse. I do wildlife and aircraft photography and was looking to replace my A74 (I also have an A6700). In the UK the A1 is about £5,800-£5900. A second hand A1 from a very reliable supplier costs £4,000 to £4,500. So it has lost not far off £2,000 in value since the launch. The A7RV new costs about £4,000 here and for the spec that is a bargain compared with the A1. The arrival of the A9III provides a speed king without the rolling shutter for about £6,000 which has phenomenal capabilities including for me the most important of all the pre-burst capture. It looks as if SONY has decided to give up on the all-singing all-dancing top of line flagship to provide tailored systems for particular applications. The A1 mark 2 people have been waiting for may never arrive.

I went to a wedding expo recently and went up to about every photography/ videography booth there. One of them was a black owned company, his portfolio was beautiful. The only reasons I decided not to go with him was because I couldn’t visualize my wedding through his portfolio- I want mine to be outdoors and his was all ballrooms. And he said the only shot he would miss is the cake cutting- as a potential client that’s not something you want to hear 😅. I do have to admit at first I was hesitant to go up, I feel guilty that I even felt like that as I wouldn’t want someone to do it to me. And I want to work on not having those kinds of thoughts. My parents are racist and would make slight comments at black and Indian people, and I’m unlearning from that mindset thinking comments like that are okay. Of course it’s no excuse. I hope to be completely open minded and not have a bias against anyone before i even meet them. I’m glad i watched this video, I came from Reddit from an interesting discussion of “is it okay to photograph weddings on plantations” and your video was tagged. Thank you for sharing how you feel and your experiences in racism. Here is the link if anyone was curious: www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/s/vJcrvAIbTl

Maybe it's getting better, but racism is still here... deeply sad for you, bro. And I think racism against black people is all over the world. Positive racism like "oh, black people have rythm under their skin", or negative, as often (Georges Floyd's murder). As a white guy, I can feel that and feel so sorry for it. Looking around me in wedding industry in France, I don't see any black photographer. And that's just a shame. And as you say, if someone talks about you, it's saying "a good black wedding photographer". May I simply tell you I follow your videos. Because your advices, your points of view are interesting. And I learn things from you. And I just don't care about your skin color : I wish I was pink and green to make you laugh !

And is this truth, actually its a zoom lens. Because you have this crop functions (windows) and with the 60MP pixels you can crop to like 50mm or 70mm and thats the same like using a 50mm or 70mm lens. Am I right?
