Foamies are nice for busy waves. So much safer.
@ottersurfboards15 күн бұрын
You're quite right....a lesson learned in limits of our skills and how important it is to put safety first - thsankfully it was just the boards that were damaged.

Bummer. I was looking around the crowd at the World Belly Boarding Championships at Newquay but didn't see you there. Some great moves to behold, I just wish and hope that the waves here in Harlyn have a bit more punch to get the best out of my bellyboad and newly made hand plane - courtesy of Chris's YT video.
@ottersurfboards15 күн бұрын
complete bummer - gonna get to work on a 'how to repair' video, haha! Yeah, family commitments mean that the slide passed me by - it looks like it was good fun! Waves and sunshine! Oh yeh, Harlyn is a great punchy wave....it'll really come to life over the coming months when some bigger swells start filling in :)

@@ottersurfboards At least the ripples at Harlyn are bigger than the ones in Sheffield - lol!

how do you keep the air from blowing it apart or delaminating it?

Good question! All our boards are fitted with vents that allow them to breathe. Either a goretex one or a bung style one depending on the customers needs :)

Thanks for the feedback, which part do you feel is missing detail? We try to capture our process as best as we can :)
@shase6shase2 ай бұрын
@@ottersurfboards excuse me, I build ultralight boats and use wood like you. Wide frames without details are frustrating even if your explanations are pertinent. I don't understand your target, but an enthusiast will want to see shapes, work details, compare, draw conclusions, otherwise why would he look? There are hundreds of books about boat building, but a video can be more interesting
@ottersurfboards2 ай бұрын
@@shase6shase Cool, thanks for the input - we're always trying to learn how to make better videos, so thanks for the thoughtful feedback :) Our intention was to give people a good idea of what to expect when they join us to make a surfboard on one of our workshop weeks as opposed to making a true 'how to make a surfboard' video.

It's an amazing video . I'm looking to buy equipment soon for a make makeshift space in order to make wooden boards or at least start. Is there a way I can understand more regarding the specs and designs in CAD/design software. Is there a website I can learn more or download standard board designs so I can tweak them as I learn more. I understand the making part I just have never used cad and especially for something like this.!any advice would be welcome. Thanks. The videos are fantastic 😍

Can't wait for September to roll around - the sun may be out by then? Do you wax the top of the board to help grip?
@ottersurfboards3 ай бұрын
We don't, and have thought about it, but the wetsuit usually does a good job at gripping

I am curious how you made the concave in the nose? I'm in the US and I've really been wanting to make a surfboard and my nose rider needs to be replaced soon.
@ottersurfboards3 ай бұрын
All of our surfboards are hollow and built around an internal frame, the frames are laser cut specifically to each shape and include features such as concave, which means the concave exists prior to shaping. I hope that answers your question!
