Good job explaining this. However it would be better if you could have shown examples of each type with an example of how they are to be marked based on their application, so even a dummy like me could understand it better. Thanks.!! I have been retired for 11 years but I still get questions from time to time and like to keep up to date as best I can so I can help other people out.

My 125A breaker that is feeding my subpanel and my 100A EV Charger breaker is reading at 120 and 137 degrees Fahrenheit respectively when charging my vehicle at an 80A load. I'm using a FLIR camera which is showing this and caused me to do a bunch of research and led me here. Everything is torqued to specification.
@MasterTheNEC
@MasterTheNEC 3 күн бұрын
Greetings - What type or level charger are you using to be 100A. Typically these would be 50A. However, if its installed by a licensed tech then I would stay away any FLIR testing and rely on your properly sized circuit breaker. The CB will trip if circuit is overloaded otherwise I suggest you hire a licensed electrician and they will be able to look at everything and put your mind at ease.

I took FastTrack a couple years ago Paul. I had a headstart since I had already had my Masters license but that was taken in 1990. Needed the Texas Masters so since it had been so long I knew I needed a refresher to say the least. Took the Texas test with a 98 and 100 on the two sections. Can't say enough about the program...it's good, really good. Take care.

Do you use column 75c if no adjustments are needed?
@MasterTheNEC
@MasterTheNEC 10 күн бұрын
If no adjustments or corrections are required you simply follow 110.14(C). You can only use the 90°C of a conductor rated as such when all terminations are rated 90°C or when doing derating as long as your load doesn't exceed the 75°C values after derating. Hope this helps and consider subscribing at FastTraxTube.com to help support our videos.

I thought that you load all breakers to 80 percent? I do commercial tho but is that like a test thing do you not take the 80 percent off usually?
@ryanutley1744
@ryanutley1744 14 күн бұрын
Or is this specific to the cord and plug loads
@MasterTheNEC
@MasterTheNEC 14 күн бұрын
Why would you only load a circuit breaker to 80% if its not a continuous load?. If its a 20 amp circuit breaker, its designed to handle 20 amps. Now, unless its rated for 100% of its rating, when you have a "continuous" load its only them you limit the load to 80% of the breakers rating.
@MasterTheNEC
@MasterTheNEC 14 күн бұрын
The rules in 210.23(B) are specific to cord and plug loads where you KNOW the loading. Not sure why folks think this applies to general use receptacle loads. For example, cord and plug in-sink waste disposal will apply to 210.23(B) but again not general use receptacles.

If we can't use optional method less than 100A service conductor ampacity, how do we know the ampacity of service conductor 100A or greater ?
@MasterTheNEC
@MasterTheNEC 18 күн бұрын
You always use the standard method in all cases. Now, single family dwellings cannot be less than 100 Amps per 230.79. So, you do an original calc and then use that to dictate if the "optional" methods is applicable. On exams always assume standard Part 3 method unless they state otherwise.

What about, for example, 4/0 MC feeders going into a panel? What is the securement code for that, because 12 inches apparently wouldn't apply. It doesn't seem to specify any other distance from the box, so is it only required to be secured 6 feet from the panel?

That is correct, on that size MC you can go up to 6' to the first securement point from the enclosure.

Just took my exam yesterday... Did some crazy studying before hand with your vids plus a few other electrical KZbinrs. Though it caught me off guard there were a bunch of solar questions. I made a 60 out of 70 to pass. I missed a bunch of the solar questions :/ plus there was questions about step up transformers and step down transformers. I know what I need to study now but it was tough. Got it rescheduled for Aug 25th. Will try again. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.

Greetings. Keep at it and you will get it fella. It doesn't matter how many attempts, what matters is you ultimately get it. Strange that you would see a lot of PV questions as my experience shows only 1-2 on typical exams. So, do not get hyper focused on just PV or Transformers. In my experience when someone gets ~60-70 on an exam that there was 30 other questions they got wrong and not all of them are focused on PV and XFMR's. So, moral of that story is keep studying balanced and don't get tunnel vision since chances are they really didn't tell you exactly which you got wrong. Stay Focused...You Got This!

@@MasterTheNEC thank you very much for your advice sir! That means a whole lot to me. I hope KZbin has a little on PV code. I feel I did good other than that. But it works out, now would be a great time to get familiar with PV. Most of the stuff I got questioned on we really don't deal with everyday so it's hard to keep it in my mind where conduit fill, box full, feeders and other general knowledge stuff I deal with and hopefully for them right. Again, thanks for replying to me! I'm going to keep at it like you said and pass it hopefully next time. Have a good day sir!

Sure you can. The spacing rules starts at the break in the floor line. If you are talking a standard door then most certainly it could be behind the door. However, it would be more practical to use all 6' in your spacing so that the receptacle outlet is just beyond the doors edge.
