Well, WWI did not turn out to be the war to end wars after all. So what was it about? The defense of small nations? If so, why didn`t the Brits just give us our freedom and get out of Ireland? And, why were 250,000 Irishmen stupid enough to believe their propaganda and fight for them? Granted some of them were from the protestant assendency and of British descent. I think the real Irish who fought in that war were less intelligent than the real Irish who didn`t so WWI had the effect of natural selection in Ireland, killing off the most stupid. But, stupid people did survive the cull. Today, we have people who want to defend the western backed puppet state Ukraine from our Russian friends who want to restore the democratically elected government in that country. But, the stupid of Ireland still swallow British and American propaganda hook, line and sinker just as they did 110 years ago. Some are even stupid enough to go and get themselves killed in Ukraine. I guess mother natures work is never done.

This important, colourful, annual event would never have happened if it were not for you and Juan Carlos Urena applying yourself so diligently to pin-pointing the exact location of the Chapel of Wonders, which had been lost and forgotten for hundreds of years. I salute you.

Wanted to throw this on and I know it won't be popular with Richard. Getting bored with the obsscesstion with Morissette. She is indeed accomplished and has a beautiful voice but good grief! There are so many more vocalists besides her. Just wanted to get that off my chest!

My husband and I both served in the Royal Air Force, and this young, heroic fighter pilot (who paid the ultimate price for freedom) makes my heart just fills with pride. To remember he was (and remains to this day) the youngest Wg Cdr fighter pilot in the RAF is simply amazing. A 21 year old young man, and a Wg Cdr of his own fighter squadron. His family must have been so, so proud of him. I know the RAF was, and remains so. God Bless You Wg Cdr Finucane. Your soul soars with angels. Per Ardua Ad Astra ☘️🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧☘️

I danced a jig when Portillo lost his seat in Parliament. But he has rehabilitated himself in my eyes at least with his short, pithy and accurate analyses of places and times. This Irish piece is no exception. We cannot blame his piece for being partial. Tim Pat Coogan, the noted historian, has made a nice living out of the events of 1916, for example.

The one thing I don't like about Portillo in this series is that he talks about Irish republicans as radicallised, which draws a comparison between the volunteers and Islamic Jihadists. Not a fair comparison at all. He is comparing chalk and cheese and it diminishes his work in this program.
