Hi. I have a mate that had the 3.8 Commodore motor with T400R installed in a 4WD L300. A local mechanic in Wollongong did the conversion. It would have been the Marks adaptor. The combo worked really well both on and off road except for one problem. Overheating. The standard radiator wasn’t getting enough airflow and I helped the mate install an additional radiator horizontally further back along the chassis. It needed its own electric fan but solved the overheating. Keep up the good work and ignore the negative comments. Cheers.
@Colin13427 ай бұрын
It might have been the T700R? The one with the 0.7 4th gear.
@tassieunleashed6 ай бұрын
cheers mate i did get rid of the standard radiator and bought a 3core alloy one with thermo fan which is bigger than standard ,i'll give this ago and hope there are no heating issues , but also checking in with the engineer on a cab lift to add more airflow around the motor, going to get headers and water pipes ceramic coated to try disperse heat in other directions, much appreciate the comment

Back in the mid-90s I saw a few mid-80s Toyota 4x4 trucks that had Buick 3.8 V-6 engine swaps. The 3.8 V-6 was a major upgrade from the 22R.

Use vr vs power steering pump. Remote res its normally on the radiotor on a ecotec and they bolt onto the buick the same other then that maybe even get a rear hump sump for one save ya modifying the one of your engine people make kits to convert buicks into just about everything even if you rear mount rad under tray some good fans and use some stainless piping to some rubber joiners so many ways to do the whole thing and make it work everything will require some modifications but lucky with the old buicks not many of the computers required vats deleted from ecu so wiring it up is simple alls you need is 12v to ecu and fuel pump wiring and then you can use your standard ignition key run it back to the ecu to the start wire basically and it should go without to much troubles
@tassieunleashed7 ай бұрын
thanks for the info mate , i'll get onto looking for a rear hump, another reason i chose the s1 motor as it has no bcm , save me a lot of wiring/ecu issues
@enricodigenova81127 ай бұрын
With your power steering pump you can remove it and run a shorter belt if you not running power steering that will sort out your problem for clearance
@tassieunleashed7 ай бұрын
Thanks , i have been told to get a later model power steering pump that has a remote reservoir, apparently it bolts straight up to the old mounts

What a great project! Not many people go through this amount of effort to create something better. And of the few people that been through an engine swap before not many would have made videos to show how many details are involved. Keep on the good work. And think of how many heads this thing will turn once you got it all sorted and take off.

No rocket science doing these swaps.. did my first v6 conversion into a Nissan in 1992.. but some are tight fits. Have installed them into Volvo, Toyota, a bmw, one into a forklift, Great conversion into lots of previous 4cyl powered vehicles 👍🏻

@tassieunleashed7 ай бұрын
the outside case is pretty thin, im same height as you and fit in pretty well , id say the internal measurements or mattress size is 200x130cm BUT there is no real clearance between the mattress and the lid so trying to store pillows and bed covers is a nightmare as it doesn't seal properly, also the mattress is hard as a rock, i might do a review shortly
