Dang! I’m 55 from Los Angeles. Went to veterinary school, worked at Santa Barbara zoo and had many many exotic encounters. Not once did I learn about antlers till just seeing this. You see, doctors and vets don’t know everything.

It doesn't hurt them, they just lose balance of their head and know something is off. They eagerly want to get rid of the other one to rebalance.

For anyone asking if it hurts when they shed, it's just like a human clipping their fingernails. I keep mine long for the most part, but as long as i dont clip down the root, i have no pain. Nails, like antlers, have no nerves in them.
