Just drop cameras that float at certain depths and then rise after certain amount of time. Could be using infrared light or something and could be "carpet bomb" dropped along certain areas.

No one is interested in the hunted. Had the case been that colossal squid hunt sperm whales - humans would have done much more to find and film the apex predator

Another key piece of evidence that whales give us about Megs being extinct is that from the fossil record, we can see that whales were actually quite small for millions of years during the time we know Megs to have been alive. Whales didn't get above about 30 feet long at maximum. Its believed this is because the Megalodon put so much pressure on whale populations that even though they had an evolutionary pressure to grow large, if it took too long for them to reach maturity, their mortality would be too high for them to produce offspring quickly enough, so the Megs pushed them to a faster life cycle. The point where the fossil records show the meg going extinct is the exact time when whale size exploded and they started getting much larger, up to 60, 70, and even 100 feet long. If megs were still around putting pressure on whale size, we wouldn't have the huge whales we have today. Megs relied on shallow warm oceans for their offspring, so there's no way they could have rapidly evolved into a different habitat. They were too specialized for hunting enormous marine mammals. When the warm shallow waters started disappearing as a result of oceanic climate change, the megs went extinct and the whale species exploded in size due to the release of the evolutionary pressure from the megs.
