Uke is walking straight forward into the attack. Tori is moving backwards attacking. Movements that do absolutly nothing and the sensei is actually yelling "ki-ai"? I can only guess this is meant to be comical...

OMG😮 double punch, double block. In 80's action movies ok but not in a bunkai😅!

This is cool but I don't think it's valid for this kata. Right from the first move, the sequence of blocking the kick and then countering with a punch only works because the footwork was changed to a retreat instead of an advance. If you had an incoming kick from the left side and stepped toward it, as in the first move of the kata, you would get hit, and even if you deflected the kick, you would be well within punching range without needing to step.

Japanese version which is not realistic Bunkai. The version taught in shotokan is a sport version where the actual application is not shown.

Some of the comments written here are ridiculous and show that some people have absolutely no idea of the concept of karate or the purpose of videos like this. Yes it's simple, yes it's safe, yes it's staged, and yes, there may be better out there, but for some it is useful and informative. People have a right to an opinion but not to be rude. Those who post comments such as some of those here have clearly not learned that REAL karate is a way of life. Go study the Dojo Principles. If you cannot say anything constructive then say nothing.

Some of this is good, some is ok and some is not even doable. In the attempt to make the bunkai look as much like the kata as possible, the actual technique is lost.

The karate movements are very good, but what I have felt so far has little to do with the moves with actual combat, in fact, because of that, in kumite, you should use the moves you have learned so that you have the reflex ability to apply these moves, you also need to get used to practicing them. facing attacks from street fights.

Good as a reference, but this is considerably basic. More importantly, the application of each technique must be effective even if it is a demonstration. Here you can see that many strikes don't have the proper depth, meaning the attacker doesn't even try to really hit the opponent. As a matter of fact, in the slow motion, you can see how the attacks stop well before reaching their supposed target way before the block is applied. Which takes me to the second thing I don't like about this demonstration: timing. Blocks continuously miss the attacks, which is a big no-no in bunkai. It HAS to be real, otherwise it's just a dance or a performance like we see in the WKF kata/bunkai competitions. Pay attention and you'll see how the attacker needs to stay still for a moment so the defensive technique can even start its application.

Shotokan people have absolutely no idea about what bunkai is. They best stick to just kicking and pushing there adversaries.
