I just discovered today that the telescopic + wire antenna works great also on MW on r9012
@VintageOils2 күн бұрын
yes it does! if you do that somewhere out in nature far away from interference noise you can increase reception drasticaly. if you do it i.e. in a city center, it is likely to just pick up more noise than signal

Ah I live in a area that has little to offer. I carry a over the shoulder kit bag. W/a wire antenna..my 219 is the USA model. Batteries are cheep easy to get. Head phone audio is good not harsh. PS I had radios stolen and it's not a heart breaker. If it's gets pinched. 😊😊😊

i like the part part about having to worry about it getting stolen or lost aswell. much more light hearted to carry a 219 around than a vintage sony. 73

So a simple gift mir frund. Ist best. Gut?

Love your humor, Those "potentiometers" are actually Variable capacitors. If you change the PB/REC head with another, no mod should be needed IF the inductance and resistance of the new head is the same/close.

My ICF-2001 still performs well with MW, FM, and SW - at least as well as my more modern radios. I live in a steel-frame high-rise, so reception can be challenging. My only issue is that memorized stations are often erased when switching bands. This isn't a huge problem since there are only six memories per band.
@VintageOils12 күн бұрын
very true! i recently had my icf2001 and 7600d out in a somewhat noise free outdoor area. the icf-2001 certainly outperformed the 7600d. especially on MW and LW it was much better. i was receiving plenty of british station on those bands on a sunny afternoon in germany. must have to do with the 2001 using its telescopic antenna on MW and LW, which in return might be the cause for the super noisy MW and LW reception i have with this radio at home

I still have a 1977 JVC KD-720 slope loader in almost mint condition. I'm an electronics engineer with a keen interest in audio, so it's had a few modifications over the years including a more modern head and now manages an almost flat frequency response from 25Hz to 17kHz with a cheap TDK FE cassette tape. The flywheel in this JVC is gigantic, so it needs starting from a paused play if you don't want to hear the speed winding up when playback starts. 😄

I was thinking about changing the heads for a better response. Would any modifications to the circuit be needed if i changed the head?

You could still fix the pc board and bring this back to life. I would spend a couple hours carefully using epoxy to put the pieces together and solder jumper wires to repair the broken traces.

It will appear that all the plastic tape transports and gears have perished and are genuinely broken. *You can probably try epoxy and lightly clamp that crack together.*
@VintageOils21 күн бұрын
Yes epoxy might help. The channel VE99 did a repair on one of these and he was claiming to have tried all kinds of glue methods and nothing really worked longer then short term. He is quiet experienced so i would probably follow his advice and just replace the gear. Or give up entirely
@angeldelvax721921 күн бұрын
Looks like a typical "turbo drive" mechanism. Notorious for their failing gears. They actually sold a repair set containing the two shafts/gears. you CAN glue them, but you do have to take the shaft out first. Take off the gear, rough up the shaft and use two component epoxy to glue the gear back. Yes the amount you said they ask these days is ridiculously high!
@VintageOils21 күн бұрын
i am actually tempted to bite the bullet and by a replacement shaft. i have a much better vcr so the repair would be just for the repairs sake

@angeldelvax721921 күн бұрын
@@VintageOils I worked at a repair shop for audio/video/color TV. We bought them in bulk for €2,- AT MOST per set. A set had the two common shafts/gears. They were sold as "nedis" back then. I doubt they still sell them though, and you can only buy there as company, not as retail customer.
@VintageOils21 күн бұрын
@angeldelvax7219 that is a realistic price. I'll have to pay 9x that and only get that one gear on the shaft, not the screw like gear next to it.
@EclectikTronik21 күн бұрын
Extremely common problem and a very easy fix. The whole shaft can be replaced or you can reattach the loose gear with some araldite, after roughening the metal shaft end. I must have fixed dozens of these with this exact problem.
@VintageOils21 күн бұрын
yes those shafts are still on ebay but they charge high money for them. would be a questionable fix money wise but i think i am going to do it just for the sake of it.
