Bridlington Has a Long History of Boat Building.....
@rexhake1 Жыл бұрын
On holidays in Brid during the 1960s all of my hard earned paper round money was spent fishing from cobles around Flamborough Head , Seem to remember a coble being built by the harbour ,she was varnished rather than painted and believe was named ACORN . Very happy days and thanks for them Brid .

I have a photo of IMPIERIALIST at North Landing Flamborough, when she was a working boat, taken about 35 years ago. Nice to see her at sea and tidy!!

I visited Bridlington last week whilst staying nearby at Barmston Beach and instantly fell in love with the place. The last two years we have stayed near Filey of which is a lovely place also but what captured my heart about Bridlington was the long beaches, the town centre, the amount of places to get food and drink and of course the Hatbour with all the things going on that you can see and do. We went on the Pirate Shio which was a fantastic ride out to see so next time I aim to go out on the Yorkshire Belle which caught my eye when we were coming back into the Harbour. The local people and visitors to your wonderful county are so friendly and none more so than in and around this part of East Yorkshire. I loved my few days here and cannot wait to return again.

I visited these during the build and spoke with the boatwright building them, the biggest shock was the price of the completed build far less than i imagined compared with a fibreglass copy

Can remember going to Brid with my dad about 60 years ago. On the pier where the boats unload the fish but at the other end where the hotel is now. There is a slipway there, we youst to watch huge skate being hauled up that slipway with big ropes and four fishermen pulling them up to the processing plant. Can anyone else remember that.

I used to love going on these boats (0.03) with my dad (ex-RAF) from about 1959 to 1965. I have been wondering what happened to them since I came to Brid in about 1982 and tried to find them. I was told they had gone and there were no new boats to be seen. The day-trip ships were tied up and looking very dilapidated too. I had a few hair raising trips on them too on a rough day. My dad liked then because the bar was open. I took my youngest son on the new speedboats in about 2002.

Before he moved into the Ozone Hotel, Lawrence lodged at the Bayview Amusements, owned by my grandparents. My mother would take him a cup of tea every morning and delighted in telling people that he slept with a dagger by his bed.

I believe one builder tried to get youngsters in to train them fully in the art but none were interested, a sign of the times? I blame no woodwork and metalwork craft lessons at schools! The Danish still offer wooden boat building apprenticeships, they have fleets of beautiful boats.
