this should have been a big hit - so fuked that radio stations refused to play because they were 40 plus.

Great song. Should have been a big hit. I read that poor promotion was the reason it didn't make it

There were trains from South Shields station in Mile End Road to both Newcastle and Sunderland via High Shields (next to Holy Trinity Church near Laygate) and Tyne Dock. The Sunderland train, which ceased running in the 1950s, branched off after Tyne Dock and ran on the line parallel with Boldon Lane, crossing Green Lane at a level crossing. The Newcastle train continued on to Jarrow, Hebburn, Pelaw, Felling and Gateshead. Tge journey time was30 minutes. The lines had been electrified but had been converted to diesel by the 1960s. Motor buses to Worswick St, Newcastle were the No. 6 stopping service which started at the Bus Depot in Mile End Road and past the Town Hall in Westoe Road then along Dean Road to St Mary's Church, Tyne Dock, then through the arches at Tyne Dock. I imagine it went along the Newcastle Road from there. The other bus was the express which took a similar route (X2?) with a journey time of 30 minutes. Both were always single decker buses. From Horsley Hill Square, there was the No. 86 bus to Worswick St, Newcastle via Marsden Lane, Prince Edward Road, Temple Park Road, West Way, St Mary's Terrace, South Eldon Street, Slake Terrace, Tyne Dock arches, Newcastle Road, Primrose, Leam Lane, White Mare Pool, Heworth, Felling and Gateshead. The journey time was 45 minutes. The No. 87 took a full hour and went a similar route as far as Tyne Dock, after which it took in Jarrow, Hebburn and Pelaw. Both buses were always double-deckers.

I worked for Mowlem when they remediated the site for housing development... We removed the top 3m of earth and recompacted it elsewhere on the site. Lots of Victorian glass bottles, an old air raid bunker (with beds still in) and some very deep shafts. Used to cycle from Whitley Bay and get the North Shields ferry every morning. PM Alan Armstrong, Foreman Alan Ringer (both great guys)

hello Edward, I'm an archive researcher based in Sheffield making an independent documentary. I wonder if you have the original footage offline, or a master version? Do you have an email I can contact you on? This is fairly urgent. Thanks
Very underated band and song! Such deep meaning and context that will resonate till the end of time to all those with humanity.

Such an underrated album. When OMD made a comeback in early 2010s their record was even compared to Secrets, as an example of an 80s band that successfully updated their sound for modern music. And it still sounds great, if a young band covers it, it'll be a hit.
