Does it patina? Looking for something thst stays white

Recently had a remodel done. Had the painter paint a handrail that was previously stained. We took the handrail off to change out the supports and found the painter didn’t finish painting the bottom… thin coat, brush marks, not sanded. He used the Emerald Urethane. I’ve sanded. Some primer shows, but no wood. Ready to paint, but want to avoid brush marks. Should I use Floetrol with this paint?

But, can I paint the walls with an enamel? Yes, it would cost more, but wouldn't that be better than wall paint?
@leeb.718823 күн бұрын
I just purchased an old home and all the trim is a really shiny white, with very noticeable brush strokes in it. I’d prefer to avoid sanding and priming, if possible, so I’d like to use the same kind of paint. But how do I tell if it is oil, enamel, acrylic or something else? Thank you for your help!

I painted an old smokey dresser that smelled like a Salvation Army store. Painted the wooden drawers with an amber shellac,think it was Zinnzer product. Has a sweet smell but sealed odor up.

can you tell me if I use the whitewash method can you do it without spraying it later to get a better coverage instead of the see thru effect
@jasonw92772 ай бұрын
Emerald is garbage because it does not hold up well to oil exposure and takes too long to dry. Centurion with catalyst contains isocyanates and you're supposed to use a forced air respirator when spraying it or sanding it so it will kill you without you knowing it. Command for the win, randomly micro bubbles when I roll it but amazing product sprayed.

Need some help gentlemen. I'm painting a 1950s home. I noticed bubbling in a lot of areas. After the paint dried, I tried to repair some of these bubbled areas add noticed several layers of paint has delaminated from the drywall. Is there any paint out there that will help from this delamination from occurring?
@ludwiglanestudios2 ай бұрын
Same thing happened to me. I was helping my folks with their 50s era rental home they just bought and after painting the living room, most of the paint was delaminated after drying. I discovered that there are many factors on why it happens, from the climate, to the types of prior paint is on the walls. The specific problem for us was that we were putting a new paint coating over multiple existing layers. We thought that the previous owners already stripped the wall because the previous owner's children said that they remodeled 15 years ago with modern latex paint. We thought that they stripped the walls first, naturally. The living room we were painting was probably painted 4-5 times over its life and we assumed that the previous owner did great work stripping all those layers. But when it delaminated, we contacted the prior owner's family and they said that they cant be 100% sure how the living room paint was done because the actual owner is now deceased. We had to sand down the wall and it turns out that they didn't do a good job because we found the motherlode of oil -based paints behind the previous owner's paint job. Long story short- we think the previous owners painted with an acrylic enamel paint over a half-stripped wall. Hence the delamination. Latex paint wasnt going to stick correctly. We had to use an epoxy before adding a new layer of paint. Problem solved. The weird part was that the house had some walls as drywall and some walls were plaster. That particular house was one of the last houses to use plaster walls back when it was being built in the 50s. What a cluster-F.

Excellent work, one question, how much should be charged per square foot of that finish, just labor and does it have to be printed only with a brush or can I spray it and then brush it?

So I thought I was gonna have a easy paint job in my house. Little to my knowledge that was not the case. I ran into the old paint peeling. I thought I knew what I was doing but clearly not. lol so with that ending said I tried to just paint the wall and it just peeled the paint off again. So which of these should I use to keep the edges down so I can spackle it sand it and paint

Question, I am redoing the stairs and the landings in my house right now. I just got sick and tired of carpet on everything. Have kids have dogs. Which will be products or maybe even another product would you recommend for laying down on the stair portion and the landing portion? My thought process is to lay this down, let it dry and then maybe put like a carpet stair piece on each stair, I’m looking for something that will hold up to traffic, hold up to dogs going up and down the stairs and not really chip or peel as easily

Do you have to seal it?
@PaleRider14 ай бұрын
You're not going to want to seal it. The main purpose of lime or white washing brick is to allow it to "breathe" as it naturally would. That's why you hear people getting so uptight when talking about painting over brick. Your run-of-the-mill latex paint locks in moisture and causes premature deterioration. I'm no expert, but hope this helps you.

Really? Slagging off designers as “dishonest,” then saying “whites are a shade?” 😂 My guy, that word does not mean what you think it means. And there is no such thing as “true” anything in a discussion about color. Once again, painters displaying their total lack of understanding about color. Please nobody listen to these dummies.

What is the best product to use like in a bathroom where the paint is blistering from too much moisture? I scraped the areas and replastered the spots, then primed and painted but it started blistering again about a year later
@nathanmortenson9142 ай бұрын
I tried the DryLok👨🦲 paint on my own house around the shower tile and behind the kitchen sink. It holds up pretty well. It's a moisture barrier paint cement basements they also make one to seal swimming pools. It has a bit of a sandy grit texture so you wouldn't want to use it everywhere,only problem areas.
@nathanmortenson9142 ай бұрын
Your problem could also be (depending on the age of your house).That at some point someone painted over an oil based paint with a latex without using a good primer. Being a bathroom makes worse because it usually a slicker sheen. (Good for water) bad for paint to stick too. That's why I'm watching this video to see if 3x thick can fix the peeling.

I read a lot about white, I try 10 white samples 🤣😅 but the location I am is horrible too choose a wall color. I work in design paint domain many years ago’s but not with Benjamin Moore or Sherwin williams, I read many blog to understand the type of undertones, and company vibe. But I am so happy to try with « samplize » best way to test color. The way people in blog, YT, designer, name it, (all over) describe color in my home, nothing look like that 😆 Pure white look beautiful on the sample, in the home of my friend … but in my home H***F***😅 it’s look like drywall not paint and dingy … I start with 4 theorical wonderful whites, but the reality is nothing look good in that first 4 samples! After that fail, I look the white samples on wall and I move to that, ok this look too dark what is the LRV, ok this look so dingy no with this undertone. I finish to find the right one in that way 😅 I have very good knowledge about paint, design, environnment, undertone and white it’s the more difficult color the choose 😅 I am so happy to finaly check the box to chose a white paint 😆! After that choose the color for doors, island are so simple and only put 3 samples and 15 min after my choose are donne at 95% just verify variation during the day White the light.

I used the 3/4" WHIZZ version of that polyamide roller on my popcorn ceilings (they had already been painted) and it performed great. It didn't leave any fibers behind and washed out way easier than a microfiber. I haven't used a polyamide roller on my walls though. I'll have to give that a try in the 1/2" version. Thanks for the video!

I just did limewash indoors and had a hell of a time with it!! 1. The brick is indoors and you can't pressure wash inside a house. So I had to clean the bricks individually with a spray bottle and a rag. Very tedious! Also, you can't just use a big scrub brush with a bucket and clean it like you would a floor or shower because the brick absorbs the dirt that you're scrubbing off if you don't wipe it off right away, and when it absorbs the dirt, it leaves a murky white haze, which wouldn't have been an issue if I was only going for painting it white and wasn't going for the rustic partially revealed brick look. 2. It sets up super fast so it's hard to get it to spray off if you don't do it within the first few minutes of application. 3. With doing it indoors, I made a heck of a mess! Even with putting down plastic and taping it up onto the brick, It caused damage to my hardwood floors, to the point that floor boards popped up. 4. Some bricks were chalky and were bleeding through the limewash and causing the white to turn yellow like pee tinged yellow... yuck! I'm guessing the primer could have helped the situation? However, I didn't have any on hand and had no idea that it existed or that I needed it. 5. Issue with where to remove and the method of doing the removal. Spraying it caused it to run down onto the other brick, and with the brick bleeding, the runs were either yellow or pink from the orange and red brick. I ended up having to leave those bricks mostly exposed, otherwise they would have looked gross, which kinda defeated the look I was going for. 6. The main issue is that I'm inexperienced and had no idea what the hell I was doing. It seemed to work out well for so many others in the youtube videos, but I guess they had good brick to work with in the first place. In my situation it was a brick wall from a chimney. I spent over a full week on 2 small brick walls as all of this caused issues that took so much time to undo, redo, and figure out. Was a very aggravating process!! Do you guys ever run into these kind of issues??????
@gwendolynballay281625 күн бұрын
Same problem here with the gross bleed through. I was using masonry flat and still ran into that issue and I too have a very large wall of brick on the back of the chimney.

If the peel stop is clear, and the color I am covering is dark, relative to the new top coat, shouldn’t I be using a white tinted primer? The peel stop I purchased from Benjamin Moore is clear and I think it states, on the label, that it isn’t tintable .

@nancyprice61546 ай бұрын
You probably have had this answered, but crazy as it sounds, Amazon. Also, it’s worth it to invest in the good Romabio brushes. Those are available at Home Depot. My husband and I applied this to our house four years ago and have had no problems at all. If I remember correctly for the big spaces we just used scrub brushes. We’re getting ready to apply this to a house we just bought and are remodeling. We’re going to use the Masonry Flat this time. But even the regular lime wash was very opaque. We didn’t want the brick to show through and it doesn’t.

Thanks guys ...... and i will say this , they do have good adhesion , probably stick better than many (not all) water based primers , but they DON'T "stainblock" so people need to beware using them as a basecoat .... They'll stick quite well , won't block stains though
