I remember two chaps using a couple of traction engines to drag the accumulated silt from the chute end of the pond and tipping it in the nearby allotments. All watched by a fascinated young lad. I left the city in 1971 and it is good to see the wheel back in operation. I clearly remember the clatter of the wheels and belts as the chute was opened to allow the water to impinge on the buckets of the water wheel.

I used to live on Whiteley Wood Road, just near this lovely old mill. I witnessed its restoration during the 60's and visited it often.

So happy that Shepherd Wheel is being restored and maintained. I lived nearby in 1990 while my husband was in fellowship at the University, and my young boys loved visiting the building. They spent many pleasant afternoons playing nearby.
