One thing many modern producers overlook when trying to create old skool classics is back then everything was analogue and in many cases performed with live instruments and patched in. Synths etc had life to them, real timber and gave a track something that modern tech and VST's just cannot provide. This is why so many new producers have gone back to using analogue and live instruments, hence why old classic synths are like gold dust nowadays. I saw the Moog in the background. They released it again not so long ago I read because of popular demand. I guarantee if you did this in an old analogue system you'd recreate the sound you are struggling to get with digital.

If I remember correctly, Ricky Lee Jones was being interviewed by LeVar Burton on his PBS show "Reading Rainbow". (The same LeVar Burton who also played Geordi LeForge on "Star Trek: The Next Generation"".)

Every sample of "Atlantis" was stolen from others. I hope they all got compensated. Bukem was just a remixer in this track.

There is a piano preset on the Roland JX-8P (PG-8X VST) that was used on a lot of early house tracks. Not sure if it's the right one for this track but worth a look. Loads of recognizable sounds in the presets, like Raze - Break 4 Love bass.

I remember this song is difficult to mix in a nightclub as the bass of the kick drum is very muddy to the bass of the song.

You touched on two topics: plugins vs hardware and the use of ai. I like both plugins and hardware however too much hardware makes the studio look messy and it is difficult to keep tidy. In contrast, plugins are all within a computer. Regarding AI, it depends on the task. I rather make the song but sometimes AI can assist.

Great little video Guy. And absolutely.... people will use AI, and good luck to them. But not for me , I use Reason and I still get excited when I boot it up. And I don't do it for a living, so I'm not personally worried about it "taking my job", so to speak. Cheers mate!! 👍😊🎶

This is one of my ALL TIME favourite house times from the 90s. It still totally holds its own today, in terms of production quality. I produced house tunes myself in the 90s, including one with Dido doing the vocals (before she became mega famous - I knew her brother, Rollo, he was connected to the label I was signed to). Here are some of my old tunes, The Rhythm (main mix) is the one with Dido on. There are six tunes here, you have to click on 'more tunes' to see them all. Have a great day, and love your channel btw, new subscriber here 👍😊❤️🎶

This song is a timeless classic. You could play that song in another 20 years time. People will still enjoy it. The old school ravers will always smile because it evokes memories of times of yesteryear.

imagine all of recorded sound drifting together like a vast ocean, it takes an artist to sample that single drop of water, placed just right for a track that may move us to tears ,

Sampling isnt immoral. You can't own a chord progression....a song MAYBE, but a collection of notes? If i can get around the rules by playing it myself then it shouldn't be an issue.

It's in Bb Major, the bass is just inverted, holding the 5 (2nd inversion). Quite rare but you do hear it from time to time, especially from ravers who 'press n guess' a lot haha. it's its own vibe.

I just made a shocking discovery. I was listening to Madres by Peruvian DJ Sofia Kourtesis the other thinking to myself “this reminds me of Leftfield” Then, all of a sudden, halfway through the track, comes this eerie, squeaky trumpet sound that’s nearly identical to the sample at 10:00. I think this is the same sample, I’m gonna go down a rabbit hole and update this comment when I find something.

21:46 my take is that its in C mixolydian as it has b7=Bb. Also can think of it as A phrygian (has b2 in it) if you want to think in relative minor but as the riff stays so much on C id say its C mixolydian, not sure if this question is still relevant but anyways hah. Great job on recreating this tune, was listening to 8ball for couple last 20minutes and was thinking if anyone has dared to to recreate this song and thank god there are people like you on youtube. Well done, sir! Enjoyed this very much and will check out massive attack vids next, already qued up 🙌

The version of Everybody In The Place is the original version from the What Evil Lurks EP. I don't think it had any other release although it was repressed relatively recently. It's not too hard to find on vinyl.

IS THIS A PRANK? NO ONE IN THE WORLD WOULD ATTEMPT TO GET CLOSE TO A REAL TRACK USING SINGLE LAYER INSTRUMENTS ON ABLETON IN A BEDROOM - EVEN THE EXACT SAME SAMPLES WONT SOUND ANYTHING LIKE THAT LEVEL OF PRODUCTION .... ITS IMPOSSIBLE YA MIGHT GET A COUPLE OF SIMILAR THINGS IF YA LUCKY BUT THEY WILL BE WEAK N CRAP AND TOTALLY EMBARASSING TBH - WHATS GOING ON , THE WORLDS GONE NUTS . EVEN TONY DE VIT TURNED DOWN REMIXING THIS SONG AS ITS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT IN HIS BOOK AND SHOULD NEVER BE TOUCHED , AND HE WAS WORLD FAMOUS --- THATS THE LEVELYOUR TRYING TO ACHIEVE WITH A MIDI FILE N AN M1 AND SINGLE CHANNELS ON ABLETON . SORRY CAPS KEYBOARDS BROKEN N NO OFFENSE BUT IM IN SHOCK AND BELIEVE YOUR ON A WIND UP-
