Here in the uk, it’s completely normal to wear surplus army clothes. I regularly wear a DPM smock or combat trousers. No stolen valour thing over here

That's not a jacket. That's the BDU shirt. Was hoping it was the M65 BDU field jacket which I'm looking for. False advertising

The Garrison cap is so badass
@markmeyer64336 ай бұрын
After poking the holes in the top of the cap I found that placing a flashlight on a stand on my desk so that it would shine through from inside the cap helped me better see the holes as I worked the hat pins through the holes. You get quicker and more efficient with each Brass insignia.

Why even bother with replica M1? They made like 22 million of them. An authentic issue post WWII Korea/Vietnam helmet will not run you much money. WWII issue fixed bail will run you some money though. Even the Euro M1 clones are cheap and just as close to the design. I love my Norwegian M58 clone.

When placing brass insignia on top of hat I found using a real "small" drill bit and drilling a small hole being careful not to get the drill bit twisted into the liner fabric. Worked quickly and easily.

Only thing you didnt cover (just happens to be the information im trying to find, and can't find anywhere) is how you attach the gold stripe AR Hatband onto the Enlisted Service Cap. I got mine from the PX clothing and sales and it came separately, and I'm not sure if it get sewn on, or...?

I wish they would have answered I have no idea
@tylergappa4 ай бұрын
@RawLumpia I ended up calling and talking to the people at the clothing and sales alteration shop. They said you fold in one end about an inch, iron / press it down, and sew on that part in the back. Wrap the band around so the other end meets at the back and fold in the excess and iron / press that down and sew it on so the 2 pressed ends meet. Then sew the band in place at the left and right sides in single spots (not sewing all the way around). So, in all, there are 4 points that you sew the band to the hat. The black band gets put on and will add additional points that hold the band in place. Took a while, and I bought a few different spools of gold thread until I got the right color, but in all, it turned out good.

@@tylergappa right on thank you!

@RawLumpia in all, it would have been maybe a couple bucks more and much less headache to just go back to alterations and have them sew it on. I live about an hour away from post, so it would have been too time-consuming, and I needed it the next day.

This form-factor (both the lamp and the battery) was very popular in Europe up to the 80's. They're still widely available and rather cheap here. 3LR12 are nothing but 3 AA batteries coupled in series so I guess you can find 3LR12 adapters for AA batteries on most marketplaces.

Just bought a P38 not too long ago. Found a holster for it and hand idea what to do with the harness on the back. Did a little search and found the adapter, got it but it came with no instructions. Managed to find your page on KZbin and it works great. now Just have to get that Rothco belt and I'll be set. Will these clips on the adapter easily fit around a regular US GI belt? Thanks for the info!

Are there still origional army jackets available? Would be glad to have an answer, thanks.
@tinman350510 ай бұрын
I still have my original (helmet Bag) that was issued to me back in 86 when I was a Tanker, of course we re named them to a crew bag or Tankers bag. Because we couldn't carry clothing with us on the tanks we only had room behind our radios for 4 Tankers bags and allowed us to carry at least a change of combats, wash kit, smokes and a bottle. It is such a great bag and I still use it all the time, but I don't think I would buy this bag because it isn't as good as the original military issued bag .

The leather chin strap goes over the front of the steel helmet to help hold the liner and steel together.

This was my BDU when I was active duty (USMC 1985-91). In that stretch, the blouse went through a minor design change with the blousing straps on the side and later switching from the heavy cotton fabric to the poplin(sp?) material. The woodland pattern remained throughout though. Marine Corps didn't start using the name tape until after Desert Storm. I still have a set with and without the name tape.

Hey I have a question, I bought one of these and has to return it, it was a very tight fit in my WW2 Schuelter m1 helmet, didn’t go in all the way either, is there a reason for that? I would buy again if it would fit decent

I just bought a german WW2 one from Poland. Not a bad price, still waiting for it, takes a bit to get around the world. :) I had to buy batteries from poland, as the USA doesn't make 4.5 volt apparently.
