It's beautiful..but has small population as seen in video... Have been there a few times from Sydney. Though its good place for a holiday town..the inhabitants don't seem to want this 😮

Those trees are gone now due to the last flooding of the river. Many shops are vacant now as many have either closed up or moved to the Greenhills Shopping Complex at East Maitland.

I have mixed reactions to Lithgow. My father grew up there from a very young age until he went to university in the late 1930's. His father's family had an interest in a mine. My mother's father was transferred there by his employer in the late 1920's, and the family remained there until he was transferred back to Sydney at about the same time. As my sisters and I grew up, we paid annual visits to various of their friends who had remained there. So there are those family connections. But in the 1950's, Lithgow as a very unpleasant town. The valley was always filled with coal smoke, and even when there was bright sunshine at the to of Zig Zag Hill, the town was dull and smelt of the smoke. I went for a trip (by train!) in winter last year. It was a bright clear day and any pollution or smoke was blown away by a stiff south-westerly wind. Not knowing what sort of food I could get there, I packed a lunch and sat on a bench in the grounds of the Hoskin's church (which protected me from the wind). Chilly but I was warmly dressed. Mort St looked run down, with few people walking around and Dimmey's near empty. Then I found the new centre just behind the southern side of Mort St, and that's where there was the sort of life you'd see in many smaller suburbs in Sydney. I might get the train back up there one of these days, much easier and safer than driving.
