For those who don't understand. Tapping the fourth wall is a term actors use when you break character to speak to the audience. The 4th wall is the camera. So both of them make references about older Ryan Reynold's movies.

@@Ahmed-SoudiI would suggest in this case that it is breaking character. Because it’s not just looking at the camera. It’s saying “van wilder” and “the proposal.” Deadpool isn’t just looking at the camera and saying “you better look away for this.” He’s talking about himself as Ryan Reynolds being in other films. To me, that is breaking character.

@@colterwilliams3152 maybe it's like that for you, but the term has well established defenition that everyone else accept. There is no "breaking character" in this scene, DP knows that he is in the movie/comix and is portraid by Reynolds, when he breaks 4th wall he is still in character - it's his main fkn feature. Example of breaking character - Jim Carrey in Lemony Snicket, where he literally tell the kid "ask me again while i'm still in character"

They could have just hired him for his voice and as a insurance so that people will bother watching the movie to see what they had him do . A lot of actors keep getting roles for a genre because they did a good movie and Directors just play it safe by casting the same actors for the same type of movies because the actors already have experience doing x role . Type casting.
