Thanks for a meaningful, useful demonstration. Hearing specific short passages BACK-TO-BACK enables *serious comparisions* and informed decisions. My guitars have Rosewood back and sides so I mentally "translate" the tone of your mahogany guitar, most of which sound to me "dryer and more fundamental" than Rosewood. I factor that into the equation, listen carefully and come to the conclusion: Phosphor Bronze for me. Again, thanks for thinking about what your audience really needs to know. Splitting the comparison into comparable passages demonstrating BOTH string types back-to-back is truly helpful.

Waste of time,my friend.I play the instrument 50 years now,forced to learn them as a teenager at rhe conservatory and I wished to have spent the same time to practise the three- notes-on- a- string system,back then...😢You will never understand the modes,if you use these scales...they belong in another era
@GuitarBasement2 күн бұрын
If you go to the gym (which I don't do often) and just do one exercise then you won't get a balanced workout. Same on guitar. I wouldn't say Segovia scales belong in a different era, or have become obsolete as you seem to suggest. With Segovia you ARE learning related Ionian, and Aeolian modes as well as the relationships between melodic and natural minors for ascending and descending. I agree 3 notes per string scales are good and knowing all of the modes as well as other scales are valuable too. As well as playing actual music. Or, playing the scales musically, which is something I like to do when I have limited time and want to do a quick guitar workout. Thanks for your comment. You are probably an awesome player if you went the conservatory route. You may have gained more from it than you realize.

slow down and get some muscle memory built up - otherwise this will be an inelegant mess and will sound like it when used. Segovia had elegance and subtlety growing out his ass - that's tough to emulate , but if u just get 20% o it - ur really winning

I just got a copy of Mickey Baker’s book as I dip a toe into the world of jazz (like a lot of people I heard this book referenced by Mr Robben Ford) and exactly as you described, I’m working through the chords at the beginning and get to that D13b5b9 and was very confused! “Wait a minute, where’s the root!?” 😂 I realise this video is a few years old but thank you for making it. I expected that learning jazz would be challenging but being presented with that chord on page 1 had me questioning everything I thought I knew 😂

What do you do when the software does not allow you to go beyond the first measure?
@GuitarBasement21 күн бұрын
You probably clicked in the measure without selecting a note. That selects the entire measure so it thinks that's all you want to play. Just select a single note where you want it to start and it should play the whole thing. If you have a single bar selected you could also go to the measure where you want it to play to and Shift click that measure. It will then select all those measures and only play what is selected. I believe that's what's going on.

You have demonstrated something I discovered too late. The scales Segovi's and others, are a mere exercise; they can help with sight reading initially and fretboard knowledge down the road. But bringing out music from these simple tonal structures is the ultimate goal and this is where the real challenge comes in. Make these scales sound musical and you will never be bored. As one of my early music teachers said; "Everything you play (even a scale) should be a concert". I thought that was ridiculous at the time, but the man was right. Thank you for this post, we are on a similar journey.

I did this to mine and it definitely improved the sound, my issue now is that the pins are very loose even If I push them in all the way and they rattle when I play some notes hehe, I actually took them off but I'm afraid they'll get lost. Any suggestions? Thanks for a great video
@GuitarBasement21 күн бұрын
If that happened to me I would probably try wrapping some kind of tape around the pins. Or perhaps tin foil or rice paper? It seems they have oversized bridge pins too, but they seem to be way overpriced. Or, there is rubber cement. That sticks pretty well but is not hard to remove. Not exactly what a luthier might do, but you do what you have to do - right? Thanks for watching!

Well, nothing worth my money here.What Guitar Pro should have made a long time ago is to turn audio into midi (polyphonic) and permit us to play through the audio interface while guitar pro identified notes and write them on score.Everything else is embellishment ,visually and audio wise.I don't really care if the sound is no longer those awful beeps.It's great for our ears and everything is cool but it isn't essencial. A cool feature should be explaining notes when you do something wrong in a compass to teach people that aren't good writing music.I know, if you don't understand you should have lessons but it would be cooler than this design features.
@GuitarBasement24 күн бұрын
Yea it would be nice to turn audio to MIDI. I sometimes do that in Mixcraft, then export to GPro. It can be a lot of work to clean up though. Converting in real time can be flakey too unless you're playing is absolutely pristine. Every little scratch or squeak gets interpreted. I remember trying this in Finale years ago and I didn't have the patience and gave up. I like the idea of monitoring your playing. Some other notation programs have this already but it's usually an online subscription thing.

Thanks for the video. I am wondering however, why Mixcraft? You didn't really explain why there was some added value to importing your backing track into Mixcraft in this context, compared to using the Jjazzlab version...
@GuitarBasementАй бұрын
Thanks for the question. Starting with jJazzlab gives you a ready made starting point for an arrangement. But them you can add or subtract instruments inside your DAW software, or perhaps duplicate or cut parts out. I just happen to use Mixcraft for my DAW. Since each MIDI track is independent you can apply any virtual instrument that you have in your DAW software to them. Then of course you can use the backing tracks and record your own instrumental or vocal tracks on top. jJazzlab does a lot, but you don't have facilities for recording like in a DAW software does.

I played them every morning for 2 hours for a year. I felt it was a waste. When people asked me to play something all I could play was scales and exercises. I started working several hours a day on pieces and greatly improved. At least when someone asked me to play I could play a piece.
@GuitarBasement21 күн бұрын
You are right that if you just play scales you can't actually play anything for anyone. I think a balance is good and I actually like scales because they sometimes help me to get the juices going. When I play scales, I often find myself going off on a tangent and working on other things. Thanks for sharing your experience.

@GuitarBasement22 күн бұрын
MIDI output has separate tracks for guitars, keyboard, bass and drums so you could usu those however you wish in another program. If you are referring to the piano keyboard for inversions, that's really there to represent things graphically. There is no guitar keyboard display if that was your question. Sorry - a bit late replying.

Outstanding, thank you for sharing ! can you tell how to add roman number to show fret position in standard notation (without Tab showing) using guitar pro.
@GuitarBasement2 ай бұрын
Thank you... glad you liked it. Great question too. I am assuming you mean for barre chords, correct? Inside GP, on the left side on what they call the "editing pallet" there is an icon "BV." With your chord pre-selected on the staff, click the BV icon and a window will pop up. It will try to detect the fret for the barre but you can also edit the fret number. You actually made me curious about the different ways and options to use this and I was thinking that perhaps I should do a tutorial on that after I do a little more research. For example, I don't see an option to use C instead of B, which I've seen used a lot. Or, to remove the prefix letter and just have the Roman numerals. It's not perfect, but it's easy to use. Did that answer your question?
