Does euro crochet HAVE to be 12+around?
@rhondarohaly
@rhondarohaly 8 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question even though I’m not certain I understand it completely. In this video I’m making a bead crochet bracelet using 8 beads around for my design. You would use however many beads you need in each round to achieve your design. 8, 10, 12, 14 etc. Obviously the number of beads you choose to use in each round will affect how wide or narrow your project turns out. The number of rounds you do will decide the overall length of your project. Saying all this, if I’m understanding your question correctly, my answer is “no” you don’t have to do 12+ around. The number of beads you do in a round is decided by the pattern you desire for your finished project. Hopefully this answered your question. Happy bead crocheting!!! 10:18

@@raymondgimay4642 Hi Patricia, Thanks for your questions. For both size 8 and 11 seed beads, I use size 40 Elizabet thread. It’s fine enough and also very tightly twisted to be strong. I have only ever done one bead crochet bangle bracelet with an invisible join. To make one just large enough to fit over my hand was a trip, and then when I did get one done, it seems to put so much pressure on it to put it on, that I decided not to make any more of them. My loss, I know. But, for all the work, it would have upset me to have it not last very long. That being said, you may feel very differently. Since I was unable to put a photo of that one white/gold bangle bracelet here in the comments, I just added a 17 second video so you can at least see what bangle bracelet I’m talking about. The instructions I used for the invisible closure were purchased from the Etsy website. The title is, “simple spiral and double reverse spiral from Etsy’s Wearable Art Emporium design by Linda Lehman. The one they show in their photo with the directions is in red/gold/silver. There are also instructions in a book entitled, “Crochet with Beads” Basic Steps and Innovative Techniques by Hazel Shake and Suzanne McNeill. In that book, the directions will be on page 29 under, Joining a Bangle Seamlessly for the Jane’s Sorbet Bangle. Both these instructions are covered under copyright laws so I cannot share any photos of them with you. The Etsy instructions can be printed from that website after purchase. The book was printed in 2015, so I think it will still be available. I know that making a video would help you so much more, but in place of that, I so hope this information will get you doing seamless joining on whatever you want. Enjoy beading!!! Rhonda

Hi! What thread should I use for beads number 15?
@rhondarohaly
@rhondarohaly Жыл бұрын
Wow, size 15!!! That will turn out so beautiful. I’ve never used any beads smaller than 11 even though I have some size 15s. Without having any experience with this size in bead crochet, my only suggestion is to find a fine heavy duty thread. Not sewing thread though. That will wear over time from the movement of the beads and break. I use Lizbeth thread for all my bead crocheting. I get it online from Handy Hands. It’s strong, tightly woven, and I’ve never had a bead crochet project break with it. The thinnest Lizbeth thread is size 80. That’s what I use. Fingers crossed this size will fit through the holes of size 15 beads. I know there is smaller crochet thread that I’ve used for tatting edging for handkerchiefs, but it won’t hold up to the wear beads will give it.

@@rhondarohaly thank you! I am using Turkish thread for beads size 11, I checked Lizdeth 80 is a little bit thinner than my thread, so I will try it, I also afraid to buy thread for sewing even though I know some people use a Jean thread ( it’s used for sewing jeans)

Thank you so much for your compliment on my bead ropes. Someone else came up with the name double bead crochet. There is a video by me named, “Starting a Double Bead Crochet Rope (aka Euro Bead Crochet too). If you find the time to watch it, hopefully you’ll understand what I’m talking about. Thank you for asking. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of time yesterday looking through all my books to find the one I used for the one and only bangle bracelet I’ve made. I must have loaned it to someone and they never returned it. I wouldn’t have been able to include pictures of the illustrations in that book that I went by anyway, because of copyright laws. I was hoping to at least send you the author and title of the book. Just a quick note…..I only ever made one of these bracelets because putting it on and taking it off seemed to put a ton of pressure on it and I was very concerned it would come apart. So that’s probably why I loaned out that book and wasn’t worried when I didn’t get it back. I’m so sorry to not be of much help.

@rhondarohaly Жыл бұрын
Wow, size 15! Very tiny indeed. How I wish I could help you with some foolproof advice on thread or hook size. I’ve never used any beads that size. I mean you’d want a very fine, but strong thread that will hold up. I’ve used invisible thread on other projects, not bead crochet though. I’m curious if they make a very fine strong nylon thread in a color that you’d be able to see and would work with your project. Whatever hook would work with that is what I’d try. I’m so sorry that I just can’t think of a really fine thread that won’t eventually break on you. Even my nylon thread idea isn’t very good since it would more than likely be a nightmare to try to crochet with. Sorry to not be of more help to you. I’m glad you enjoy my videos. They were born out of my own personal frustration when trying to learn bead crochet and finding so many conflicting instructions. Once I’d figured things out….I decided to share. Good luck!

I’ve gotten all my top quality end caps from a little shop in Oberlin, Ohio, that sadly is no longer in business. I’m glad that I bought a lot of them before they went out of business. Sadly, I’d purchased some on line and from jewelry making catalogs before finding this shop, and not a one of them carried first rate quality jewelry findings. I’ll add you to my list of people to get in touch with whenever I find another great source. As you know, the end caps, clasps, and chains have to be of the finest quality, otherwise they ruin the whole piece over time if they discolor or the finish wears off in places. I do work from purchased patterns sometimes, but I always measure the ends of my work to match them to the right size end caps. I’ve learned the hard way that sometimes the circumference of my piece doesn’t match the size in their instructions. I use a caliper to measure the ends. Hopefully, I’ve answered your questions. Thank you so much for reaching out to me. Enjoy creating beautiful bead crochet pieces!!!

Your videos and comments are so helpful! I was reading through and saw that you don't like the Aunt Lydia's size 30 (which I just used on two slip stitch projects - oh no!). I was thinking about ordering the Lizbeth 40, because I need a thinner thread for single bead crochet (or double bead crochet, depending on naming). When I tried it with Aunt Lydia's 30, the thread was way too visible. Would you say Lizbeth 40 is definitely thinner? I ask because I know size can vary a bit between brands. I've also read about using top stitch thread such as Gutermann Mara 30, and saw you didn't like that. I'd be grateful for any information you have comparing the thread thicknesses. I have to order online, so I'd hate to end up with thread I won't use! Thanks!

J Hi! Thank you. I’m so glad my videos were helpful. I don’t have any Aunt Lydia’s 30 anymore so I can’t lay it next to my Lizbeth size 40 and 80 to check which is thinner. I am rather certain though that if the 40 isn’t any thinner the 80 definitely will be. These are the two sizes that I use exclusively. My first bracelets made using Aunt Lydia’s just fell apart. That’s the only reason I stopped using it. I tat, so that’s how I’m familiar with the Lizbeth threads. They have a tight twist that stays that way. I just learned that Handy Hands sells approximately 3 yard samples of their Lizbeth threads for 99 cents each. I’m just saying, it might be something to look into to be absolutely certain the 40 or 80 will be thin enough for you. It would also help you see the true color. Without a doubt, I know you will love the feel and strength of the Lizbeth thread! Thanks for your question. I hope I was of some help. Take care.

@rhondarohaly
@rhondarohaly 4 жыл бұрын
Orly Zeelon No, I can’t say that I know of a metallic thread that is size 40. I don’t think the Lizbeth thread that I use comes in anything metallic. I use the Lizbeth thread from Handy Hands Tatting because it has a really tight twist that makes it super strong. Without that strength the beads tend to wear the thread out and then everything falls apart. Trust me, I’ve tried using other threads and always come back to the Lizbeth. I used other threads and had 2 bracelets fall apart after wearing them just 3 times. Maybe you could choose a color of Lizbeth thread and twist it together with a metallic sewing thread to get the look you want. It’s worth a try at least. I’m not sure the beads wouldn’t eventually weaken the metallic thread though and you’d end up with frayed ends showing. It’s just an idea.

@rhondarohaly 4 жыл бұрын
Oh wow! 3 dozen times. Take a big, big, breath! I can feel your pain. When I started I did the same thing.....over and over again. So here are some tips to keep in mind and I hope they help. In this video I stress the size of the loop you keep on your crochet hook. It almost sounds like yours are a little too large...and that can make it look like a knot mess. Also, after making the first ring it is so important that you start by putting your crochet hook under the next bead without skipping any and keep the bead that is already there on that first ring to the right as you add your next bead. Sometimes I even forgot to do a slip stitch crochet and added in a single crochet and that made for a knot mess. To get the result you want you have to crochet not too loosely or too tightly. I went from one extreme to the other. I have 6 other bead crochet videos on KZbin and just maybe you’d rather try what everyone calls “double bead crochet”. It’s not actually a double crochet stitch that is used but I didn’t want to mess with their terminology. In that technique you get a more pliable finished project and you don’t have to worry about pushing the base bead on your project to the right when you add the bead on the next row. The beads on your project lay at a 45 degree angle instead of laying flat next to each other. So maybe check those other 6 videos out. Oh my gosh, good luck. Please don’t give up. Hopefully, these tips will help you. I have been where you are at and know your frustration.

Padma Mandayam Thank you for your question. This is a pattern that I purchased online a few years ago. It’s called “Greek Meanders”. It is a bead crochet necklace pattern that I just made narrower and shorter for my bracelet. It is a 2013 pattern by Iulia Postica from Beaded Treasury. On page 4 of the instructions there is a pattern to follow for the necklace and I just altered it by making it narrower to suit a bracelet. Unfortunately since it is their pattern, I cannot share how I changed it. Here’s hoping you can still find it online and let your imagination run wild!!! Enjoy your bead crocheting.

Hi Mrs Rohaly First off I love your videos they have taught and help me so much in becoming more confident in my crochet work! Thank you so much! And second I want to somehow incorporate letters into my work but am at a loss on how to do that, would you know a way or do you know where would be a good place to start looking on how I would do that? Thank you so much for your time!

Michael Imhoff Hi! I’m so glad that my videos have helped you. Actually, I have never added any letters to any of my beaded crochet projects. I would look on “Pinterest” though to see if anyone there has done letters in theirs. I’m told that quite a few people even share their patterns for items. Sorry I can’t be of more help. I hope you can find your answer there. I honestly can’t think of where else to suggest you look. Thank you for asking and for your kind words about my videos.

I love ur videos. Such great information. I have been crocheting for awhile now. I have been trying to do a beaded rope but every time I try I have a lot of thread showing thru each bead. I have changed size of needle and thread. But I get the same result. What am I doing wrong?

Tanya Trapp-Snyder Hi Tanya! I’m so glad that my videos are helpful. The only thing I can think of is to make sure that when you make each crochet stitch, your loop is just large enough to pull the end of your crochet hook through. Not too loose and not too tight. By working with just the tip of your tiny crochet hook and not pushing your thread up the wider shaft of the hook this should cause less thread to show. Some thread will always show so make sure that your thread matches the majority of you beads. I’ve found that when I use the Lizbeth thread size 80 from Handy Hands Tatting, my thread shows a lot less. That thread is really strong as well as fine. Hopefully I’ve explained this well enough to be helpful to you. Happy bead crocheting!!! :)

Hi does the numbers in JBeads equal 1 inch meaning 10 to 20 equals 1 inch of beads. So if i needed a 90 inch necklace i need to go to 90?

Mz Jazz I’m so very sorry. I don’t know the answer to your question. It has been years now since I’ve used JBeads. Maybe somewhere in the JBeads software they tell you. I’ve looked through my notes and can’t find an answer for you. Sorry that I’m no help.

I would like to know what size beading needle and crochet thread is used with 11/0 beads in some of the beaded embroidery.

Thanks for your question. I use what are called “big eye” beading needles. They are sharp on both ends and there is a big split down the middle for your thread. As far as I know they don’t come in sizes only different lengths. I got them from Amazon. Pretty much all of my bead crochet is done with size 11/0 beads, so as I showed in this video I use size 80 Lizbeth threads from Handy Hands. It is super fine but really strong. On occasion, if the beads will fit, I use size 40. Hope this helps you. Enjoy doing bead crochet! :)
