This came out either as I was a frosh in college or just grad. hi school in Arizona....like maybe 73 or 74ish or thereabouts.. Az. was HUGE for Santana......with all our Hispanic buds who live here, it's only natural. Loved this album.....loved seeing Santana live many times thru the 70's and 80's. Just shows that we BOOMERS lived thru the best music in the 20th century.....beginning around '63.

The guitar tone Santana had on Caravanserai and Welcome was his best tone, IMO. His tone changed when he started using PRS guitars.

Yes! I used to have the quadrophonic reel 2 reels of Abraxas and III. The differences between them and the album mixes were stunning, but this track especially so!

Aside from the obvious sublime guitar duetting , Rolie’s subtle organ arrangement is an important factor in making this, for me , one of my top 5 Santana pieces. Coster makes his first appearance on this album too. Santana says this still makes him cry as it is the last album of the classic line up. Never ever fails to hit evoke powerful emotions and memories.

Caravanserai is a masterpiece from beginning to end. It's, in my opinion, the most progressive and timeless music I've ever heard. This is my favourite album on the way to coast for a surf. GOD bless you Carlos Santana.

This is the real Santana. But dont forget the great playing of Mike Shrieve, the crazy bass-lines of Doug Rauch, the smooth Hammond of Gregg Rolie and the clever grooves of Mingo Lewis. Its improvisation but sounded like a composition. Absolut timeless

What is ironic about this recording is that both Carlos and Neil Schon contribute equally each to about half of the solo line. If you know each player's style well, then you will know who is whom.

This is just a jam, if it's supposed to be Song of the Wind then Los Lobos didn't learn how to play it nor did Carlos remember how lol, it's just a jam with a few riffs from SOTW within it.

I agree 100%. The stuff he was putting out in the early-mid 70's was just magical! I loved it when those albums first came out and they have stayed with me since. Helped introduce me to Jazz, something that has really broadened my taste.
