bro i have spent years trying to convince people that this video existed. And for years the vague random descriptions id put into the youtube or google could not help me in finding this again. God bless the random youtube algo, im never losing this video again.

Why would you compress low-volume sound 52:00? Compression means limiting the volume at some level, no?
@solarbot6099
@solarbot6099 14 күн бұрын
I think he means if you take that vocal track of him speaking at length and you compress it , it will bring the louder part down closer to the level that the quieter part is at. Yes, the whole thing will be quieter as well and that’s why you increase the output gain. Take a wav file and try it out and you’ll visually see that the whole thing looks squashed, but balanced

I took Dave's classes in the mid 90s. The studio had an early Pro Tools system there but the course I took was on a 24 track Studer and a 48 channel Harrison board. I even caught up with him in 2015 or so and he gave me a sound therapy session!

Perhaps I'm missing something, but isn't soundstage and imaging not just mental (phenomenological) but also physical? For the simple reason that a speaker's got a radiating pattern, meaning it will produce sounds outside its boundaries and will also inherently produce a foreground-background effect, hence the need to be on axis and discussions of near vs farfield. Still, a useful scheme to make sense of things.
