My only problem with the Outlander PHEV is the lack of fuel efficiency of the ICE engine. It would have been nice if Mitsubishi decided to improve the mpg's of this vehicle at high 30's

G'day it's Steven from Down Under I've been a Mitsubishi Motors vehicle owner since 1987, and my personal experience has been great overall, not only have I been happy with all of my Mitsubishi cars but the customer experience has been excellent too. It's good to see Mitsubishi gradually returning to its greatness in the US too. I can't wait to see all the new models in the not too distant future, especially the rumoured Outlander PHEV Ralliart. "Drive your Ambition"

All this mode does is use heavy mechanical braking along with SOME regen to slow the vehicle. It will PHYSICALLY pull down the brake pedal and HARD when you let off the gas. When you are using the paddles for regen, the brake pedal does NOT depress automatically and the energy is fed back as you coast. However, this one-pedal mode does NOT save energy at all. All it does is burn out your brakes. It is either accelerating, or it is braking - there is no coasting in this mode - as soon as you let off the gas, it immediately pulls down on the brake pedal. If you look at the energy generated on the dash when you brake using the one pedal button, you can see that it is generating less power than if you brake using the paddles because most of the braking is coming from the physical pedal. I have no idea what the purpose of this mode is other than getting you back to the dealer for new brakes at 50K instead of 100K. It is also very head snapping to drive with it on. Even if this mode worked as intended, why on earth would I want to learn to drive a car with only one pedal and not using the brake pedal?!!! Not dangerous muscle memory to develop at all! This is not 'innovative' or 'clever' or even useful in any conceivable situation. What were they thinking?
