Thank you for highlighting our beautiful gem of a lake here in Roscommon County, Michigan. I was editor of the local paper here in the 90s (before it closed down). I called National Geographic to verify the oft-repeated claim that Higgins Lake is, indeed, the sixth most beautiful lake in the world. I was told they get that question a LOT, but National Geographic does no rate lakes (or any natural feature) like that. They agreed that it is a very beautiful lake, but any claim to be rated among the best by them is untrue. Because of the clarity of the water and the absolutely beautiful setting, it is not uncommon to hear locals call it the 'Caribbean of the North.' Canoes and kayaks are two of the best ways to explore Higgins Lake, especially if you can get out on an early summer morning when it's just you, the birds and all the fresh, clean oxygen you can handle. Again, thank you for highlighting our incredible lakes here in Roscommon County, MI.

That photo was taken out in Lake Huron coming across Boot and Government Islands, not very protected and it did not look sandy, best check with the locals for suggestions, thanks for watching

Years ago when my at the time I was married my husband and I would go cross-country we would always stop at Carter caves to camp and we only saw a few of the caves and then when I went cross-country with my daughter we only saw a few things, gosh I didn't realize all that stuff was there. Maybe if that would have been our final destination we would have stayed longer but we were just passing through. We stayed at the lodge the last time. Yeah well I hope they replace the beds in the lodge cuz they were lumpy and I left a special embroidered pillow there and they never contacted me.
