I'm sitting in my kitchen, at my breakfast nook, watching this video whilst enjoying a bowl of Old Toby (actually, cherry almond aromatic pipe tobacco from the Tinder Box), yet I can't help but feel a bit of nostalgia, thinking that nearly a quarter of a century has passed since the filming of the first Lord of the Rings movie. Oh, how fast time flies. It's no wonder that we savor the little things, living the slow life... good food, good drink, and a good pipe.

Romancing pipe smoking. Right, it is supposed to be relaxing, but there are some serious consequences. First of all, It destroys your taste for food. My granddad used to smoke a pipe. In his sixties he was diagnosed with cancer of the mouth; they had to cut a chunk out of his lower lip. He had been drooling for years ever since.

I like how pipeweed in lotr is meant to represent a form of recreational activity that would be a simple comfort. It’s more so a representation of a simple life than “just smoking”

Just got me a Gandalf style pipe and the same tobacco they used on set on all 3 movies (peter stokkobye 24 Nouget) and thought I'd enjoy smoking with them knowing it was a similar experience

I used to smoke a pipe in college a mercham pipe cause it was so cool and smothe. Didn't like cigarettes as I found them harsh until one Christmas when my dad's friend the Counsel General of Turkey brought a gift of Turkish filterless cigarettes in a double layered box. The tastyest, smootest cigarettes I have ever trieed. But I long ago gave up smoking of all forms

@@CarolinaChris26 kind of, but not really. I think that there are 3 sort of clans of hobbits and I couldn't name them without looking them up, and one of them are said to have darker skin perhaps, but I'd think it to be more of a tannned pigment, not really black. People coming from one place historically look alike, what the RoP is doing with forced representation breaks the suspension of disbelief a bit, because groups of people weren't multicultural unless it were some sort of trade center, but even so, the different guy wouldn't have been local. Were there black Vikings or white Sikhs? Maybe. Maybe there were black hobbits, there probably isn't mention that they weren't so believe what you want. If you are looking for actually likely dark skinned characters in middle earth, there's Harad.

A good friend of my brother and I gave us his entire pipe collection last night!!! And one of them was a Churchwarden, like the kind they smoke in the *LOTR!!!!!!!!!!!!* That one, of course, I kept for myself!!!!

I talk to tobacco shops (not vape shops, but legit tobacco shops), and they commented pipe smoking was quickly disappearing with time, only to make a resurgence once LOTR came out. It began to decrease once again, only to more recently come back in style for some reason. Really interesting how a movie, which merely shows simple relaxed people pipe smoking and having fun, would influence people so much.

I've started working on a similar Hobbit compilation but gave up on it as soon as I noticed that Martin Freeman was fake piping apparently with CGI smoke no less. I didn't see the point of compiling the pipesmoking scenes seeing as they seemed so fake. Be my guest and do it yourself if you so wish.

I've smoked a pipe since I was in my early 20's, nearly 30 years now. Not every day. Not every week sometimes, just when I feel like it. I have a little shop in town that I've frequented all that time. Same people still own it, now quite old. Their butter rum blend is my favorite. My very first pipe was a Dr. Grabow that I got at Walgreens. Now you can't buy them there anymore, nor any pipe tobacco, but that's ok. I'd rather buy from the local shops anyway. Cool video, though. I'd like to get me a long churchwarden pipe like Gandalf's there some day. If you notice later on in the movie, his pipe fits nicely into the end of his staff.

I don't understand why they keep trying to make the insinuation that pipe weed is pot. Tolkien makes it clear that it is tobacco.
