@@Carrera-gp9od Unfortunately the upgrade works at the privately owned Ardrossan Harbour haven't started yet, despite having over 7 years for Peel Ports to do the required upgrade works for the new vessels. So CalMac doesn't have any other choice but to operate both MV Glen Sannox and in the future MV Glen Rosa from Troon instead of Ardrossan until the required upgrades have been made.

Any idea she only hung about at Troon for less than 24hrs? Presumed she was staying down here to start more trials from 26th? Seems a bit odd to come down from Inchgreen to go back up there the next morning 🤔
@Scottish_Transport_ExplorerАй бұрын
Yeah it's quite odd indeed, and it's something I don't know the answer too unfortunately. Tho apparently MV Glen Sannox is due to start trials at other ports around the network, including Ullapool and Stornoway. I believe that's because both Glen Sannox and Glen Rosa would be the ideal relief vessels for MV Loch Seaforth when that goes for annual overhaul, at least that's what i been told so don't take my word for it.
@rossbrown6715Ай бұрын
@Scottish_Transport_Explorer would explain the wording of "network trials" that are due to start from tomorrow (weather dependant). Noticed on another video there seemed to be some issues letting go of the ropes at Troon so fingers crossed an issue hasn't developed 🤞

@Scottish_Transport_Explorer3 ай бұрын
Yeah and it caused a 30 minute delay on all Ardrossan sailings for that day, even MV Alfred got delayed having to wait for LOTI to depart Brodick. We had to use the emergency exit at Brodick to board the vessel via the car deck from the terminal building, which was interesting.
@scottbraid4433 ай бұрын
@@Scottish_Transport_Explorer My point I am making is the gangway and the Loti both look the part and it's a shame why the are both not compatible. The Alfred is a waste of time and not fit for purpose I don't like her at all.

@@scottbraid443 Fair enough, but with Caly Isles being out of service all year, just having one small vessel like IOA ain't enough for the busy Arran route in the peek summer months. MV Alfred ain't perfect as it ain't designed for the Arran route, but at least Arran has the needed capacity for the peek summer season instead of being stuck with one small vessel. More of a reason why we need the Glen Sannox as soon as possible.
@jimmcintosh90453 ай бұрын
Would rather see Caley Isles back rather than the Glen Sannox. Much more outdoor seating on the Caley and during Covid with distancing and face mask wearing(which wasn't required on deck) it was a relief to get out on deck but CMAL have forgotten this advantage.
@ambasteir83162 ай бұрын
@@scottbraid443 Why do you think the Alfred is a waste of time, and not fit for purpose? It has done a great job over the last 18 months or so. Arran would be pretty knackered without it, almost double the capacity of IOA, for cars at least.

Travelled on her a number of times when she was operating from Uig, nice vessel a quantum leap from the predecessors Columba and earlier Hebrides. The old Heb survived 20 years of the Minch, but Heb. Isles is now 40 years old, she has served CalMac well but I think she is now simply worn out and will cost a fortune to refurbish, and with the new vessels from Turkey due to be delivered soon her final journey to the ship graveyard is a sensible decision.
