Have you been to Mohawk before this trip? I think it's overrated and over priced... I've been there several times and haven't really found much. Occasionally, some people do pretty well, but it's mostly a guessing game. For the rookies, this is my methodology: Find a wall/location with plenty of vugs (voids/cavities in the rock) that's filled with hydrocarbon (black specs within the void), and that's weathered enough to break apart. Find fractures in the bedrock to embed a wedge, use the wedge and a sledge to increase the size of the fracture, use a prybar to eventually remove the rock from the wall, then break apart the removed rock until not much is remaining. This methodology works really well for me... If I had to rank my favorite places (best to least favorite): Dirty Diamond Diggers (incredibly easy to find large, weathered crystals), Crystal Grove (cheapest of all the other options, with a weathered wall to work on), Mohawk Valley Mineral Mine (can occasionally do well with plenty of locations to mine... Guessing game and expensive), Diamond Mountain (mainly smaller crystals and as expensive as Mohawk), Ace of Diamonds (no longer in business)... I've been to all of these places. A $100 entrance fee for all locations except DDD isn't worth it.

This was our 1st time there. Probably out last... and we didn't even get out hard hats as they ran out of them. LOL. You made a very good assessment. Many other sites out there and a few we haven't made it out to yet. Lots of treasure in the ground, just got to get lucky and put in the work as well. yeah, DDD- I pulled out a dreamy 2.75 heart shaped bucket list piece. Insane. Here, atleast I got some really nice druzy herks and that 1 piece.
@michaelwalters38056 күн бұрын
@@crystalminerrocks6122 I don't blame you lol. The site itself isn't maintained well (porta potties are disgusting) and I'm not a fan of the owner. I really don't think he's helpful. DDD (Chris), on the other hand, will dig with you until you find something. With Crystal Grove, at least the site is maintained and it's cheaper... I know you mine a lot. What's your favorite location?

I have been to DDD twice, and 3 other sites. Yipee. 1 out of 5. Another recent discovery of 2 of my pieces from this site- there is some calcite bits locked inside the herk and is pretty much invisible, but I hit it with midwave uv and you can see the purple calcite show up like light bulbs. Bad ass.

Thanks for the video and the honest review...I have been wanting to try this place and Dirty Diamond Diggers as well. It's nice to see a little more of the location and what us average folks can expect to get out of there with a hard day's work. With my family dynamic, I doubt I would be able to make it up there for at least a couple of years, so hopefully it'll still be producing at that point. Thanks again for the video!!

Definetly a great honest review. I have now dug at mvmm twice. I also felt like the scores are random not easy and it is hyped somewhat making the average person feel a bit frustrated if there isnt much after working so hard. I liked camping it was fun and we always have made memories there in camping. My sister Violet and I hammock camped in 2022 when the facilities were not yet there. What a crazy trip. Even had a big foot experince. So you might not find herks...but you will make memories. Lol Thanks Anothny. Love your videos. After digging at ddd any other place has been a much differnt experince.

I haven't researched the geology in those locales as to the good calcification you see in here. The Hillsborough River is certainly in the zone for silica I believe - all that agatized corals in that area. Peace River, haven't heard of any myself. Sorry for the lack of input

Thanks for the video, Anthony! I have only ever done the $25 dig at Twin Creek, and didn't make a video of it, unfortunately. I have been wanting to get back there and try a $300 pocket and see how it goes, so I really appreciate you sharing what it's like. Yeah, that seems a little like a tease about the veins being 20 feet high that you have access to, but can't really work it because it's like a cliff verses a slope that's easy to climb to work the material.
