Ah, John Bell Hood. What a catastrophe for the South. Apparently, this song was popular both in the North and South during the Civil War. It is largely free of racial or revisionist associations at this point.

This is actually an anthem for the Namibian Germans that still live there, its still played today by that group of people. Yes, the Herero genocide was horrible and we must not forget it but this song itself is light hearted

Zeker een heel sterke Nederlandse invloed op deze cover! De oude Frans-Vlaamse covers gaan ook hard. Een echte klassieker voor enig welke Jeugdbeweging in Antwerpen en omstreken om te zingen. "Al die willen te kapren varen" is een traditioneel volksliedje uit Frans-Vlaanderen, een voormalig Vlaamse regio in het noorden van Frankrijk dat in de periode 1659-1713 werd afgestaan aan het koninkrijk Frankrijk, ten gevolge van de oorlogen van koning Lodewijk XIV. Het liedje werd gezongen door Vlaamse zeelieden en handelaren die op zoek waren naar avontuur en rijkdom op zee.
