Before a dedicated thief ran off w/my Blanton, I was able to pick along with radio. Just move the bar a bit and you were in tune. Thanks for the tutorial.

Thank you for showing us how to vary intros and fills for this iconic song. First rate again. I am actually playing this at our next performance. Would it be possible to look at some beginning ways to play Farewell Party from beginning to end?
@pedernalesvalleycountry22 күн бұрын
Farewell Party is on the list! There are a few concepts I wanna make videos about first and I’m also trying to work up a simplified arrangement of it too. But it is on my list!

Do you do any type of facetime or zoom lessons. I am very interested in your teaching concepts. I have been playing the dobro for 10 years. I started playing music at 60. I have been trying to wrap my head around my pedal steel for the last six months or so. I do understand some music theory and can relate to you teaching by understanding the concept behind it. I would be interested in a few lessons just working on the pedal steel and your how music theory may make it easier for me to wrap my head around more quickly. Thanks John

I had to think about that, I don’t have time right now to do lessons but I’m always open to answer any questions as thoroughly as possible.

our band wants me to play this in A on my pedal steel. I love the way you play this. My question is what do i do when I can't make the move from the pedal down position to two frets back with the knee lever. I am out of fret board. right now i just go up to AF on the 8 fret and bounce between there and the 7 fret pedal down but it definitely doesn't have the same sound.
@pedernalesvalleycountry25 күн бұрын
I’d basically play the same but end it with the bar off on open chords. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5-Zk6SceK2FaNE

Thanks! I didn't know Sho~Bud made a volume pedal leg bar bracket for the steel. Is that one home made? :D
@pedernalesvalleycountryАй бұрын
I wanna say I bought the bracket from a guy on the forum who makes them, but it may have been my local FB group. It took some modifying to get it on but it’s held for years. I think it was only like $30 or so.

Another wonderful video with very simple instructions and the reason why you move to each new position. Well done please keep them coming. I have progressed so much using your simple process to learning the fret board. It truly has help me move seamlessly between positions and made me a way better beginning player.

@@pedernalesvalleycountry Your lessons have been so valuable in me really understanding the fret board and how to move so easily between positions. I struggle with the melody any help that you can offer would be wonderful and maybe just a few easy as you can make them licks moving through the different positions that we can move into any key. Anything you post is wonderful though. thank you for asking.

Best practice is to refer to a lever by what it does, not by its physical location.

Greetings. I'm a new player and struggling. I have learned to play the 1 4 5 series in four different locations on the fret board. I get it. I have also learned two independent scales. I am sure I have the musical theory in place to follow along. I cant seem to find anyone that teaches actual songs. I purchased a superb early learning tool from a very accomplished player... however no songs. 1 4 5 and licks to no end....but no songs. I play the guitar and dobro. I am very surprised I am having this level of difficulty. Any chance you could direct me to where actual entry level songs are offered for instruction?

Thanks for reaching out. I’m getting to where I will be doing just that, entire songs. I’m going to do Ray Price - I Just Destroyed The World In the meantime contact Jim Palenscar at Steel Guitars of North Country. Ask him about the Buddy Emmons Courses, they teach entire songs. He has the rights to sell them if he still has any. Here is the catalog at Buddys old site. www.buddyemmons.com/courses2.htm

2 books you must get pk. the first thing I got because it was recommended and were the first a lot of people started with at 1 time . Winnie Winston's PEDAL STEEL GUITAR book and ANTHOLOGY OF PEDAL STEEL by Dewitt Scott. Start there for sure. There are whole songs, scales, info, and Instruction using melodies of Partial Songs. after that I would take a song off youtube everyday with a steel intro or solo up front and easily heard and try to find the notes. It may not start coming to you for a few months, and definitely will frustrate at first but with at least 10m minutes a day and an hour if you got it you will develop your ear and you will know what notes are being played and will learn a song in a couple days front to back. but you need to keep playing those scales so you recognize the notes. then when you hear that A pedal or B OR ANY LEVER OR PEDAL ENGAGE YOU WILL KNOW. THAT'S EVERYBODY can do it. I use to think I couldn't either.

You must be from around Fredericksburg or Johnson City using the name Pedernales. The river starts about 2 miles southeast my hometown near the Tivydale Road. I now live in Washington State and have a couple of Sierra 12 string universals.
