There are few songs that come close to this for observation, poignancy and depths of meaning.

This should have been the theme tune for Killing Eve. Astonishing lyrics and a sensational vocal performance.

In the Seventies, for WCAS in Cambridge, this was what passed as a HIT. But then we were kind of the weird kids.

Probably the greatest English artist most of the English have never heard of. Imagine if Radio 2 slotted this in in the middle of the day amongst all the drivel. The nation would come to a standstill.

I'm trying to work while I listen to this and it's impossible. The song is too good. A love of Richard Thompson is one of the best gifts my dad ever gave me. We went as a family to see him together so many times when I was a kid. The memory of it brings a tear to my eye, and a big smile. Thank you Richard.

I see that this video was posted on KZbin in 2008, but can anyone say when & where the video was actually recorded? I see one comment below that suggests 1975, another that suggests 81. Anybody (the poster maybe) have specifics? Thanks in advance for any info.

From the first phrase, I teared up. Bonnie has done that for me from the first time I ever heard her, at sunset overlooking Lake Travis in Austin in 1975 when "That Song About The Midway" came wafting through the still hot and humid evening.

I always remember them playing the old Birchmere. Christine's tendency to stretch out her hand when she hits the high notes always struck me how she was giving it her all. Such a great duo.

As a singer/guitarist for 67 years I often 'bone up' on a song when an artist sadly dies. For Norma, I added "The Bonnie Ship the Diamond" to my rep.

It's a wonderful rendition by Bonnie and Richard. Bonnie is her usual brilliant self, and Richard, the writer of the song, offers her perfect background harmonies. So so beautiful. Just over four minutes of musical heaven. 🙋‍♂ 🙋‍♂

David Swarbrick; passed away a few years ago. Above all a fabulous fiddler, but with a good, characteristic voice as well. Very synonymous with FC Swarb was during the early 70s - the Full House album etc.
