No problem, I post this stuff hoping that someone can learn from it. To be honest to camera makes the top look massive, it was big but not too big for the capabilities of the tree.

This really gets people debating. I thought for a while that gas an electric saws were both stopped by chainsaw chaps. However, I've watched some videos that show electric saws cutting through the chaps before the chain can stop.

It sure does, in the test I did I was not able to get through the chaps, the motor cut out before it had a chance to get through.

Please don't take this as being mean because I don't intend it to be that way. With that being said here's the truth! First, please don't call yourself an arborist. You are a long way and many hours of studying for a certification to use that as a moniker. There are way too many accidents for one person to have when they're up in a tree! You have to realize that in a split second it can cost you or someone on your crews life or injury that you can't take back. We do need climbers out here, but you have to get trained. The best thing for you is to take some classes and then get with a real arborist that can teach you proper ins and outs of tree work. It's a great and very exhilarating career that everyone has to look up to you mainly cuz you're in a tree. If you are going to continue to do this without training, please don't post it because people out here are just going to tear you apart and that's not good on your psyche.
@miketheclimbingbeaver8 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for the comment and concern. 99% of those fails were before I started my cert 3. I 100% understand the risks involved with this work. Since starting my cert 3 I've become a much better and safer climber, and I'd highly recommend anyone who is thinking of getting into the industry to start with the certification.

@@miketheclimbingbeaver I wish I had videos of some of mine. I was working all day on the same property. Neighbors watching me all day, plenty of compliments. I cut this top that does not go the right way and takes out the secondary power wire, shutting off the power for the entire block (at least 20 homes). The house next door was setting up for a graduation party and people were just showing up when it happened. Felt like a real moron, but I hung out and the power company came and everything was right in 2 hours. I still work for that client and this is years later. Most people understand the risks.

hey, there I mean no personal offence and I'm not a professional treecutter but respectivly, are you? are these just some fails in thousands of jobs or does something like this happen every 5th time you have to make a cut? even with this video perspective it was quite predictable where the log would swing in almost every case when you secured are rope to it and/or pretensioned said rope. and what was the idea at 1:48 with the roof? where was the tree supposed to fall to? the tree followed the direction of your cut exactly. also in this and many other cases with "thinner" trees I don't see a wedge cut, is there a reason for that?
@miketheclimbingbeaver10 ай бұрын
Firstly, I appreciate your comment in being open in asking questions. I wouldn't call myself a professional yet, I'm about halfway through my cert 3, but no, it doesn't happen every 5th cut. There were a couple of dumb mistakes in there haha. The one with the roof was a rigging failure. It would have been fine if the port-a-wrap didn't slip, which made the branch free fall too much causing the rope to break. The rigging gear was supposed to catch it. There was a scarf cut into the tree that went backwards and the one that went on the roof, the one that landed on the other tree, and the one that peeled right down the trunk had one too but it wasn't deep enough. Hopefully this answers some of your questions.
@Simon-bu4kc10 ай бұрын
@@miketheclimbingbeaver ok, as I said, quite hard to judge on the FPP video and I'm not familiar with tactics you apply in certain situations. I for example didn't spot the suspending rigging gear. thanks for the details and good luck on your further training.
