If I could give your FO a tip, put the armrests down, so that the elbows are well supported. It’s a lot easier to make delicate inputs and reduces PIO whilst hand flying especially in turbulence. Good practice for a jet where it’s a must.

Interesting video, haven’t seen much Dash content let alone from Australia. Been ages since I was in Cairns but it’s a nice airport. Interesting they don’t give runway numbers with takeoff/landing clearances etc. as that seems to be the norm. I’ll have to get my licences finished so I can fly back up there myself one day!
@upperairworkdownunder3 ай бұрын
@@nankervisj Glad you’re enjoying the channel. I find if there are multiple or parallel runways, ATC will always give the Runways number for takeoff, and Cairns only has one runway. There are also multiple other times the active runway is given, ie ATIS & Taxi clearance.

The ‘line up’ got changed to a ‘line up and wait’ because at first TWR didn’t think there was a delay, but they couldn’t quite issue the takeoff clearance, but then something on the crossing RWY caused a delay, so they changed it to ‘…and wait’.
@upperairworkdownunder3 ай бұрын
@@ratsac Receiving a “Line Up” clearance implies that you need to wait for further instructions - ie Line up only. To say Line up a second time is not normal. Typically a controller would say something like “expect 1min delay due crossing traffic”
@ratsac3 ай бұрын
Yep agree it’s not normal. I think the controller was just correcting themselves in a non-standard way. You’ll also get a “….and wait” if you get given a line up with an assigned heading, but can’t quite be cleared for takeoff yet, regardless of whether the controller thinks there will be any delay.

It’s strange but you don’t feel the height in a plane the way you do standing on a cliff or building. I’m not great with heights myself but I’ve always been alright flying. I’m not sure if that is any help to you but I hope you find a way to face it.
