hey also, any reason why you didn't use a zip tie with the two hots, when you used them with the three neutrals and the other red-black join? I knew nothing about wiring before this so everything seems like it could be potentially important haha

This is great. I have three photosensor controlled lights on the same circuit that don't work that well with LED's. It's a problem when the weather starts warming up and especially during the hot summer. One or all three will flicker. It's an intermittent thing some times it flickers briefly and goes away and other times it won't stop flickering. I'm thinking of just bypassing the photocells. Do you have any thoughts on what might be causing this and possibly an alternate solution. Never had a problem with lights that weren't controlled by photosensors. Thanks!

My guess is some loose wiring or a bad photocell - easy enough to check - just bypass the sensor and see if it goes away.

@@djbarton1972 Thanks for your advice. When I first installed these, I went through everything and even returned one for another one. I made certain all the connections are tight and to spec. If it was loose wiring, I'd expect the problem to occur all the time, not so intermittently. In another video, I heard that light reflections can cause strobing during certain weather conditions. That seems to be what I have. They talk about a shield cover you can put over the sensor, but Hamptom Bay, my brand doesn't sell anything for these photocells.

What was the point of taking the entire brake assembly off the handlebar? Why not leave it in place and just replace the lever? Way more steps included in this video than what was needed.

Thank you, mine died and I was going to get a new fixture, but this saved me from that. I just want to bypass the photocell altogether because now they make awesome edison style led bulbs with the photocell built in, and I have had one working in a lamp post for 2 years now. Much easier to replace a bulb than a photocell or fixture.

Get hand in, turn whole plastic wired section pull out....separate bulb and replace, then do first step in reverse. Fitting back in can be a nightmare or you get on your first go. Good luck!

How do you rig an outdoor photocell to not come on so early in the evening, (and turn off so late in the morning)? These things are wasting electricity, big time, and I don't like them. Everyone of them I've tried, though new, is the same - they run the outdoor barn pole security light too long. They're too sensitive to light / absence of light, no matter which way I face them, (and I face them north, away from the rising / setting sun angle). I think they build them like this so we waste / spend more on electricity. Thanks.
@djbarton1245

You might be better off getting rid of the photosensor and going to the timer based kind that you install at the power switch. That way you can control when and how long it stays on and when it turns off. That have ones with built in calendars for sunrise and sunset.
@steveandrews8301
@steveandrews8301 2 жыл бұрын
@@djbarton1245 Thanks! Good idea. But my power that goes to my light pole also goes to the submersible deep well pump right near it. Somehow I would have to separate the two, electrically, to do that. That would definitely make it easier to install such a timer, (inline), like you described. Thanks again for your suggestion and help, very kind.

My lever is fine but the grooved circular part that connects to the lever that you slide the end of the cable through to attach it to the lever busted open and i didn't even realize it was broken until i had already started riding and went to stop and got nothing so i had to stop Fred Flintstone style. There is no scarier feeling than heading straight towards a wooden fence after flooring it and then pulling the brake lever to feeling no brakes at all lol. But yeah i guess i gotta order a whole new brake lever assembly to fix my issue.

How do you test the photocell?
@djbarton1245
@djbarton1245 3 жыл бұрын
once installed you can just put your finger over the sensor to make sure the light comes on. If you are trying to test an old one to see if it is bad you can do the same (if you are sure it is not the bulb and you have power to the fixture) If you are a bit more technical you can use a meter to check voltage applied to the fixture while covering/uncovering the light sensor.

Is the low beam headlight the same as the DRL? So when I turn the headlights on at night (2009 VW Passat wagon), the only change I see in the front of the car is the yellow lights on the outside??
