I had this on cassette back in the 80s I believe it was. Eventually it quit playing. I couldn't find it on CD. I'm so glad to be able to enjoy these songs again! Nobody does them as well as MM & the Chambers Brothers! They are awesome!

My Jesus Is All is fantastic! Best version I've ever heard! Trials, Troubles, Tribulations is better than the original. Daniel Prayed is excellent--can't decide if I like this version better or Arlo Guthrie's. Definitely the best version of Nobody's Fault But Mine that I've encountered, Mansfield, Kaiser, even Zeppelin notwithstanding. Nice versions of Travelin' Shoes and People Get Ready by the Chambers Brothers.

Thanks for posting this- I've missed it! Saw her at the Lone Star in NYC do songs from this great album. Sounds like to original tapes (i.e. not the vinyl.) How did you get them?

I've had this album since the mid 1980s. Put it on the turntable for first time in 15 years a year ago--still crackles with conviction!

I remember hearing a radio interview preceding this track once where Richard is explaining how they decided to take their budget for this tribute track and fly to Hawaii to record this with Ray Kane and his missus on vocals. Could not have spent it better.

No. The first tune was written in E major, as played here with the composer in the band!
@AllanCWechsler Жыл бұрын
@@Jemtheflute And it works really really well in E major -- the finger feel is completely different than the now-apparently-more-common D major version. If your band is up to it, play it twice in D and then "kick it up" to E.
@Jemtheflute Жыл бұрын
@@AllanCWechslerWell I haven't been in a band for many, many years, but if I bump into it getting played in the original E in a session I can play it there. It's definitely a bit more awkward on a flute or whistle there, though, because of the G#s - not great on a keyed flute and pretty irritating on a keyless D instrument. On the plus side, it's a typically Scottish hexatonic tune - the 7th of the scale is omitted, so in E there are no D#s to play (gapped on C# in D). Although in E major, for practical playing purposes it's only in three sharps, not four.

This video and all of these hand-held B/W videos of Dylan with The Band at Isle of Wight were recorded by Jack Henry Moore, died 2014 (Founder of the legendary Videoheads Amsterdam/Paris). He used one of the first portable consumer video recorders. A hand-held Sony portable "Portapack" that used 1/2 inch video tape on open-spools (you had to thread the machine like a reel-to-reel audio recorder). It was a UK TV standard version of Sony's first CV-2000 Series - the UK TV resolution back then was only 405-lines of resolution. The light weight UK version Jack used had a hand-crank to rewind the recorded tapes for playback while out in the field. May Jack and his amazing video archives of counter culture from the ALCHEMICAL WEDDING at Albert Hall in 1968, and on in Western Europe (wherever they are), rest in everlasting peace.
