You do not. The only thing that's required on the goggles side of things is making sure its ExpressLRS backpack is updated to v1.5 or higher.

No. Update your esp32/elrs backpack which is already installed on your goggles, to v1.5 or higher. You can do it through elrs configurator

Im not the one that built this, so no credit to me. But as far as i know our timer is built with a raspberry pi 5 with rotorhazard and an extra esp32 which is connected via usb. The goggles esp32 needs to be flashed with 1.5 or higher with a binding phrase. The two esp32's talk together to send race info directly to the goggles. the drone does not need to be plugged in to see the osd elements. this is so far beyond my paygrade to even understand so DM me or something and ill put you in contact with the right person 😂
