Discussing bone grafting for future implants without consideration of soft tissue quality and augmentation, or prosthetic implications and requirements, is leaving out a lot. Too often, surgeons or even GPs are only looking at a CBCT, not the whole picture. That invites many problems.

I didn't have a chance to join on Wednesday September 25 however I viewed the program this morning, Sunday September 29 and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! What a great program and I highly recommend this podcast to all career levels to engage in a relaxing thought provoking hour and view the content, questions, and perspective of our guest speaker Dr. Giannobile. Thank you to the hosts Bob and Lorenzo - great work and their preparations as a moderator speak to the importance of well organized directive hosts asking the right questions. Thanks so much! I am looking forward to reading some new books this fall too. Thanks for sharing! Thank you Dean Giannobile for taking the time for AO.

43:39. WHY would it be better to do a root canal on the broken remaining root? Isn’t it better for all the surrounding soft and hard tissues to have live pulp in that broken submerged root? It’s still biologically maintaining the biology of the area?
@bachle62684 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Whether endodontic treatment is necessary before submerging a root depends on many factors. However, I do agree that if the tooth is healthy and the pulp is vital, some evidence suggests that endodontic treatment may not be required. Studies like those from Cvek et al. and Heide show that inflammation after a crown fracture doesn’t extend beyond 2mm apically when the pulpal blood supply remains intact, indicating the body can manage the situation without root canal treatment.

Hello! Thank you very much for the wonderful video. I am a dental surgeon resident from Russia. I tried several times to listen to the name of the company and bone material that Dr. David L. Cochran was talking about. Could you write me its correct name))))) Thank you in advance

As a dental surgeon who has been placing implants since 1984, I can say that I certainly enjoyed this lecture, and feel that this is a very important subject. Doctor George Whitehead

I am honored to sign on as the first commenter. My name is Dr. George Whitehead and I had a Branemark Fixture placed in my Upper Left Molar Region, tooth # 15 area, by a wonderful Oral Surgeon by the name of Dr. Bob Germann (may he rest in peace) in Oceanside California. This was in 1984. That year I began to place Branemark Implants (Branemark called them Fixtures) and I took my implant training at U.C.L.A. I took this training under the tutelage of the U.C.L.A. team, and the very first "Branemark Start Team." Soon I was heavily, and happily, involved with placing Branemark Implants. I went to the Branemark Institute in Gothenburg Sweden in both 1991, and 1996. To be able to train there was a wonderful life altering experience. I will forever be indebted to Professor Branemark, and all of my other teachers, who shared their knowledge and courage with me, as we all forged ahead in the field of Osseointegration. Warmly, Dr. George Whitehead (one final comment). My Branemark Fixture was a 4mm. by 10mm. "shiny cut screw implant" as there were no "textured surface implants" at that time. It is now July of 2023, and it is still in perfect health, and perfect function, low all these 39 years.

exactly not all patients make bone you need to check the health of the patient we did a vertical augmentation and everything was great but after 7 months nope bone is weak and not maturing

We need to look at the restorative aspect of implant dentistry from a mechanical perspective, after all we are not dealing with "teeth" any more. The soft tissues are not like stone model their shapes are secondary to the shape of the final restoration but you to allow the tissue to re-adapt to the new shape without causing tissue necrosis.

we finally finally discuss the anchorage of shield in the future as we published in 2020 (this is in long-term the major complication with this technique, which is not mentioned yet anywhere); the bone between the shield and the implant can be achieved predictable; you just have to understand how to design the shield; it is time to move to another discussion

As a surgeon who had the opportunity to work side by side with this extraordinary human being, I can tell you that he was not only a brilliant scientist and surgeon but an exceptionally kind and compassionate human being. His research and work has benefited and will continue to benefit human beings for generations to come. The quality of life of millions around the world have been enhance because of his foundational research and clinical trials. He treated his patients tenderly and it was awe inspiring to watch him operate. One could say that he operated at the molecular level and had a profoundly deep understanding of the cellular and bio-molecular aspects of healing response and tissue integration. His work completely revolutionized the disciplines of Stomatology and Dental Medicine. Sadly, he is under appreciated for his contribution. Many of today's young clinicians don't even know his name or know of his contribution to the discipline of Dentistry
