I've had this image on my list of tattoos to get based on XTC's English Settlement artwork for years.

Had totally forgotten the XTC album art - thanks for the reminder!

I hadn't heard of this one. Cerne Abbas is near me and I wonder if ancient tribes had some sort of competition for the most impressive hill art. There is a similarity in style between them. I also wonder how forested these areas were when they were carved. Thanks for the video.

Very interesting! I didn’t know about the Disney pink paint. Romney Marsh is such an evocative and inspiring subject matter.

Great stuff! I read about this legend when I was a teenager and the image of him sat up in his best suit and glass of claret has stayed with me. One of those places I was always interested in seeing. Thanks for the video!

Fascinating! I was there years and years ago and inscribed the ‘horse’s’ image onto the sole of a shoe I found there. The lady who won the cheese rolling contest was on breakfast TV recently- it looks absolutely mad! I’m surprised no one has been killed taking part.

He built 'The Sugar Loaf' to win a drunken bet. He bet a lot of money that the tower of a certain nearby church, could be seen from his bedroom window. On waking the next morning, he was horrified to find that it could not be seen from his window, so he got some workmen to knock up a rough tower that could be seen from his window. This tower is quite squat, but looks the part from a distance. And that won him the bet.

I visited the cemetery 20 years ago. I would love to know if he is still sitting there. I was told that this was actually a fact.

Love the dwell at the beginning on the tree that looks like a chicken 🐓 I think if you run around that pyramid backwards 7 times (4x for some of us) the devil will definitely appear to one in the form of a broken ankle, so I’m calling that as “yes, plausible”. Enjoyed this!

I live not far from Brightling. Last time I visited some local people were angry that the cost of maintaining this private mausoleum was being charged to parish residents.

Wow, did not know that. Doesn't seem right that the folly of one man is being paid for by people not associated with, and centuries away from, the fella

Hammer Films' 'Captain Clegg', is basically the same story, but I enjoy it far more than the Disney effort. It has far more atmosphere, for one thing - and Peter Cushing, Michael Ripper, and Milton Reid in it, for another. Michael Bentine wrote a rather fun occult novel set on the Romney marshes, entitled: 'Lords Of The Levels'. Very dark in places. A good read.

I was always under the impression that the 'Screaming Woods' were so called, because a man fell into a brick pit, and died. It's his screams that are supposedly heard. I first read about Pluckley in Andrew Green's book 'Our Haunted Kingdom'. I was about ten or eleven, and the watercress lady's story, fascinated and frightened me.

Interesting location. Old Rommey looked far more interesting that "new" one. Disney made a habit of buying the rights to many good stories. Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea became Disney's 20 blah blah blah. Never saw Dr. Syn, but I hope some justice was done to the story.

Interesting place. I especially liked the story of the highwayman. Maybe it's the morning light, but your images of the church and graveyard were very clear.
