In the 70s, west of 170th street was a lumber yard and farm fields through to Spruce grove, we used to bike ride the vast space, clustered here and there with trees where West Ed mall sits and there was a drive in theatre, south side of whitemud freeway, not quite a mile west fr 178st. My mom’s friend occasionally took her kids, me and my bro to the drive in and as we approached, the alert to hide was a signal…..the fun was about to begin. . Good stuff

They never should have gotten rid of the Storyland theme. It’s what made the zoo so appealing and fun for kids. Now, it’s just another boring science centre.

I don't know why Mordecai Richler referred to Edmonton as a 'used building lot' when it so clearly looks like a remaindered and overstock building lot.

For those of you who, like me, grew up in 60s we couldn’t wait until they invented sound. It was so quiet back then. Then boom 1970 and Alex Gram Bell invited sound and we’ve ever looked back.

I remember standing next to the fallen stack from the powerplant after CN site demolition .63? Left for Toronto from the old CN station the same year. Returned in 66 to see it completed and have a peek inside. A huge deal back then.

Actually the station departures arrivals were being done from temporary terminal next door. The old station had closed. But I do remember the old station. I could visualize the troops leaving there in earlier times. Errie.

i was born here in 2001. this is a really cool look into the past for me, i always thought different times would have a super different feeling but it’s oddly the same with different aesthetics. it still feels like real life which is a weird thing to say but i always thought it would feel different looking at the same place 60 years into the past

You rock!!! Add me to the list of Keurig owners that have a machine that I do not have to toss in the trash or had to take it apart. Did as you mentioned and success. The Keurig took longer to warm up than the time it took to grab a can of air and blow out that area. Thank you very very much! I am part of the WFH work force that are returning to the office an we have several Keurigs that are inop. Can't wait to try this on the other 2 I know of that are having the same issue. Thanks again!!!

Thanks for putting a huge grin on my face - this amazing clip shows the Valley Zoo exactly as I remember it from the first time my family visited it back in 1962 when I was 11 years old. It was great fun for kids, but I was much too old and mature for kid's stuff like this. Does it still look like this after all these years?

Edmonton was at its best in the early 1960s to mid-60s. I was a typical businessman wearing nice dark suits, well-shined shoes, and narrow ties back then. In 1976, I switched gears and became a social worker for children at the Youth Development Centre (YDC) in northeast Edmonton. Times had changed for the worst. More divorce, more juvenile delinquency. At the YDC, I dealt with many unruly kids. One boy, who was only 12 years-old, kicked me in the groin really hard when I tried to restrain him, injuring me to the point where I couldn’t walk for two days. The pain of getting kicked in the testicles by an emotionally unstable child was devastating. I thought that was the end of me. I didn’t want to deal with kids anymore. From a well-suited shiny-shoed businessman in the early 1960s to dealing with misfit children in the 1970s and 80s in Edmonton. What a change.

Thank you, I got one of these from a friend, they said they haven’t used it because they purchased a newer one. Had the no water coming out during brew, tried this trick and worked perfect. A bunch of black specks came out in the water and it kept pouring water and overflowing about 8 large cups worth, but it works perfectly now. All cleaned up. Running. A cleaning solution through it now to descale and sanitize.

So that was what it looked like by the Reichstag before they made 97ave into a tunnel in the late 70s The Chateau Lacombe under construction, and so was the Centennial Library, and there is Edmonton's first Skyscraper, the CN Tower. I remember when the High Level was two-way traffic. Today's driver, who are scared to enter it at the north end, because there is another lane also going south, would have crapped their pants when it was two way. And todays cars are tiny compared to Normal sized cars from the 60s and 70s
